NWSL Updates Activation For Tenth Anniversary Season Championship Game

By Barry JanoffUPDATED October 25, 2022: Just days before its 2022 championship game, the National Women’s Soccer League today unveiled the recipients of the 2022 Best XI First Team awards, presented by Mastercard.
The recognition honors the top 11 players in the league. Each athlete will also receive a cash bonus for their achievements
The Best XI First Team is based on weighted voting scale comprised of players (50%), owners/GMs/coaches (20%), media (20%) and fans (10%).
2022 NWSL Best XI First Team
• Goalkeeper: Kailen Sheridan (SD)
• Defenders: Alana Cook (RGN), Naomi Girma (SD), Sofia Huerta (RGN), Carson Pickett (NC)
• Midfielders and Forwards: Sam Coffey (POR), Lo’eau LaBonta (KC), Alex Morgan (SD), Debinha (NC), Mallory Pugh (CHI), Sophia Smith (POR)
The NWSL and international fan engagement platform MatchWornShirt will offer game-used jerseys from the 2022 NWSL Championship, presented by Budweiser, Oct. 29 between the Portland Thorns and Kansas City Current.
Each jersey will be offered “unwashed.”
Proceeds will go toward Leveling the Playing Field, which “gives underprivileged children the opportunity to enjoy the physical and emotional benefits of youth sports participation.”
The NWSL Championship is scheduled to air on CBS (8 PM ET) and stream live on Paramount+, with Twitch to stream the match internationally.
September 28, 2022: The National Women’s Soccer League today unveiled events and sponsor activation surrounding the 2022 NWSL Championship, presented by Budweiser, in Washington, D.C.In addition to the league’s title game, scheduled for Oct. 29 in Audi Field, home of the NWSL Washington Spirit, the NWSL, its partners and fans will celebrate the culmination of the 10th anniversary season and 50 years of Title IX.
The NWSL playoffs are scheduled for Oct. 15 and Oct. 22.
“This year’s NWSL Championship marks the end of a historic season,” NWSL commissioner Jessica Berman said via the league.
“We’re excited to host a series of events to salute not only the accomplishments of our teams and players in reaching the final but also the efforts of those who have given this league and the broader women’s sports landscape the platform it deserves, from fans to sponsors to thought leaders and beyond.”
Partners include Ally, Anheuser-Busch (Budweiser), CarMax, Deloitte, Delta, MasterCard, Nationwide, Nike, UKG, Verizon and Voyager.
Media partners include CBS, SiriusXM and Twitch.
Nationwide, the NWSL’s exclusive insurance partner and presenting sponsor of the Community Impact Award, has joined with the league to support the local community by organizing a sports bra distribution initiative alongside the Washington Spirit’s community partner, Leveling the Playing Field, on Oct. 27 to benefit a D.C.-area school in need.
In partnership with Billie Jean King Enterprises, the NWSL will host a summit entitled “Score More for Title IX” on Oct. 28 in the International Spy Museum.
The summit will include key sports figures, thought leaders and policymakers who will “celebrate 50 years of Title IX and engage in meaningful discussions about the next 50 years.”
Also on Oct. 28, Just Women’s Sports will host a NWSL Championship Party presented by Ally.Ahead of the NWSL’s prime time match, fans are invited to gather outside the gates of Audi Field along "Audi Drive” for the NWSL Fan Fest (from 5:30 PM-7:30 PM ET).
This year’s event is scheduled to include the CarMax Skills Challenge, Budweiser Build-a-Bar and Nationwide Kick to Win.
Just Women’s Sports returns its signature pre-game show, The Warm-Up, which launched during last year’s NWSL Championship weekend.
As part of this year’s Fan Fest, The Warm-Up presented by Ally will feature soccer stars breaking down the 2022 season and previewing the NWSL Championship game.
Coverage of the match will air on CBS (8 PM ET) and stream live on Paramount+ and internationally on Twitch. Pre-match coverage will stream exclusively on Paramount+.
