Court Is In Session: Nitto ATP Finals Players Seek No. 1 Ranking, $14.7M Reward

November 12, 2022: Embracing Yogi Berra’s famous line, “It ain’t over ’til it’s over,” the ATP Tour is staging its season-ending tournament this week, with the honor of world No. 1 and more than $14.7 million in play.

Tennis Channel will have complete coverage of the Nitto ATP Finals, live from Turin, Nov. 13-20, in Pala Alpitour, Italy’s largest indoor arena.

The Nitto ATP Finals roster has been re-set, with current world No. 1 ranked Carlos Alcaraz out due to injury.

1. Rafael Nadal 2. Stefanos Tsitsipas 3. Casper Ruud 4. Daniil Medvedev 5. Felix Augert-Aliassime 6. Andrey Rublev 7. Novak Djokovic 8. Taylor Fritz (see groupings below).

The doubles field is led by No. 1 ranked Wesley Koolhof and Neal Skupski

The event is awarding a tennis record $14.75 million in total prize money.

An undefeated champion would earn $4,740,300 in singles, but otherwise $2,200,400.

An undefeated doubles team would earn $930,300, otherwise $350,400.

In addition to Nitto, lead partners include Emirates, Ford and LavAzza.

According to the ATP Tour, if Tsitsipas wins the season finale without losing a match, he would climb to world No. 1 for the first time.

However, if hes does not go 5-0, Nadal could return to top spot by winning the title.

If Tsitsipas does not leave Turin as an undefeated champion, Nadal can also return to world No. 1 by advancing to the final after winning all three of his round-robin matches.

If none of those scenarios play out, Alcaraz would remain at world No. 1 and earn his first year-end No. 1 finish.

If Alcaraz and Nadal finish the season finale with the same number of points, Nadal would be world No. 1 because "he will have more total points from the Grand Slams, ATP Masters 1000 mandatory tournaments and the Nitto ATP Finals," according to the ATP Tour.

Seven-time year-end world No. 1 Djokovic is not in contention to claim the year-end No. 1 honors in Turin.

Alexander Zverev (not in this year’s field) won the event in 2021 and 2018. Medvedev won in 2020. Tsitsipas won in 2019. Djokovic won in 2008, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015.

The ATP Tour said the prize money pool is an increase of 103% over the 2021 tournament and a 64% increase on the 2019 event, the last pre-pandemic edition of the Nitto ATP Finals.

Nitto has been title partner of the ATP Finals since 2017.

In all, Tennis Channel will show more than 150 total hours of this year’s competition — 55 live and another 100 hours of same-day encores.
