WNBA Hottest Tickets: Fever On Fire, But Liberty, Sky, Wings, Valkyries Also Smokin’

By Barry Janoff

May 1, 2025: In 2024, the focus of WNBA excitement was on No. 1 overall draft pick Caitlin Clark.

In 2025, with Clark coming off a Rookie of the Year campaign for the Indiana Fever, the excitement has, if anything, increased.

But the focus is not just on Clark.

Paige Bueckers enters the league as the No. 1 overall draft pick by the Dallas Wings.

Second-year star Angel Reese is joined on the Chicago Sky by rookies Ajsa Sivka (drafted at No. 10) and Hailey Van Lith (No. 11), the Seattle Storm drafted 19-year-old French phenom Dominique Malonga No. 2 overall and the Washington Mystics added Sonia Citron (with the No. 3 pick), Kiki Iriafen (No. 4) and Georgia Amoore (No. 6).

Add that to the defending WNBA champion New York Liberty again being led by Breanna Stewart and Sabrina Ionescu, two-time WNBA champion Kelsey Plum being traded from the Las Vegas Aces to the Los Angeles Sparks, veteran All-Star Tina Charles returning via free agency to the Connecticut Sun, all-time great Brittney Griner moving from the Phoenix Mercury to the Atlanta Dream and the Golden State Valkyries joining as the league’s 13 franchise, and it is small wonder that WNBA ticket sales entering the season are more in-demand than ever.

“The WNBA is on a roll with ticket sales up nearly 2.5 times (145%) from last season, with all 12 returning teams seeing growth. Interest in women’s basketball is reaching new heights, with first-time WNBA ticket buyers jumping 28% compared to this same time last year,” according to just-released numbers from StubHub.

And demand is not just domestically. WNBA’s global appeal is rising, with people from 29 countries having purchased WNBA tickets on StubHub ahead of the season, up from 12 countries in 2024.

“The momentum behind women’s sports has never been stronger, and this year’s WNBA season is a prime example,” Adam Budelli, StubHub spokesperson, said via the online ticket platform.

“New stars like Paige Bueckers, alongside stars A’ja Wilson, Breanna Stewart and 2024 Rookie of the Year Caitlin Clark are driving record-breaking demand with the highest pre-season sales in StubHub’s history for the league.”

The Fever are atop StubHub’s list of ticket sales, listed in all of the Top Ten In-Demand WNBA Games.

Nine of those Fever games are on the road. No fewer than six teams have moved home games in which they host the Fever to larger venues due to ticket demand, including the Dream, Sky, Sun, Wings, Aces and Mystics.

StubHub’s Most In-Demand Games are led by the Fever at Connecticut (July 15) and the Fever at Chicago (June 7).

The Fever-Sun game was moved from 10,000-seat Mohegan Sun Arena to Boston’s 19,600-seat TD Garden.

The Fever-Sky was moved from 10,000-seat Wintrust Arena to 20,000-seat United Center.

The Fever-Sky game July 27 was also moved to United Center.

The two games will be the first WNBA games in United Center history.

“Given the explosive growth in the WNBA, we now have a first-ever opportunity to invite more fans to experience this matchup at a larger venue of the United Center,” Adam Fox, Sky president and CEO said, via the team.

“Chicago Sky fans have consistently shown up for the team and the city, and we want to reward their passion and dedication by bringing this excitement to an expanded capacity.”

The Sky visiting the Fever May 17 is No. 3 overall on StubHub’s list. The team’s season opener will air on ABC and ESPN.

The Liberty are No. 4 on StubHub’s Most In-Demand Teams. The Liberty hosting the Fever in Brooklyn’s 19,000-seat Barclay’s Center July 16 and July 22 are No. 9 and No. 10, respectively, among StubHub’s Most In-Demand Games.

Entering the franchise’s 26th season, the Fever will be featured in 41 nationally televised games, which the team said was the most in WNBA history.

The buzz around Bueckers has Dallas Wings ticket sales up 4.5 times (343%) from last season’s start, according to StubHub.

In the 24 hours after selecting Bueckers, site searches for the Dallas Wings jumped 4.5 times (351%) on StubHub.

The Fever at Dallas June 27 — the first regular-season meeting between Clark and Bueckers — is No. 4 among StubHub’s Most In-Demand Games. It was moved from 7,000-seat College Park Center to 20,000-seat American Airlines Center “due to the demand on tickets,” according to the Wings.

Golden State, the league’s first expansion franchise since 2008, face the Fever in their best-selling game of their inaugural season on June 19.

Sales are more than double that of their second-best-selling game of the season, when they host the Sparks for their WNBA debut May 16.
