When Baker Mayfield Met Alice Cooper At The Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame

October 25, 2021: Just in time for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Class of 2021 Induction Ceremony (Oct. 30). Progressive Insurance offers a multi-media campaign filled with Cleveland imagery: NFL Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield, the Browns FirstEnergy Stadium and the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame itself.
This is the Rock Hall’s induction week, with the Class of 2021 including Foo Fighters, The Go-Go’s, Jay-Z, Tina Turner, LL Cool J and Billy Preston. (See full list below.)
FirstEnergy Stadium and the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame are within walking distance, located about two-tenths of a mile apart.
In “Package Mixup with Alice Cooper,” that gives Mayfield the opportunity to bring a box that was wrongly delivered to him at the Stadium to its correct destination at the Hall of Fame.
Mayfield arrives at the Rock Hall and Alice Cooper answers the door.
Mayfield either doesn’t know who Alice Cooper is — born Vincent Damon Furnier, Rock Hall of Fame Class of 2011, with the musician wearing his distinct makeup and outfit — or Mayfield is the least emotional person on the planet.
“Hey, Baker from next door. I think I got one of your packages,” he says to Cooper, who even with his makeup evokes a highly quizzical look. “I opened it by mistake.”
Mayfield pulls out a Gothic-style boot big enough to fit Andre the Giant.
“You’ re sure they’re not yours?” Cooper asks.
“Pretty sure,” says Mayfield.
“Online shopping . . . It’s my curse,” says Cooper. “You and me both,” replies Mayfield.
Cooper asks Mayfield to borrow a wheelbarrow to “do some mulching,” then looks at the boot again and asks, “These look a little scuffed — you sure you weren’t wearing them?”
A second spot, “Alice Cooper Makeover,” finds Cooper visiting Mayfield and his wife Emily at FirstEnergy Stadium. Bobby, the stadium caretaker, tells him they’re out. “It’s their pedicure day.”
But that gives Bobby an opportunity to ask Cooper a question: “What kind of eyeliner do you use?”
“A nice liquid pen,” Cooper says. “No clumps.” He then proceeds to give Bobby a makeover, so that he looks like Alice Cooper.
Later, Mayfield notices something different about Bobby: “Did you get your hair cut? New jumpsuit? Get your hair dyed? Teeth whitened? Tanning? Have work done?”
The Rock Hall will hold the 36th annual Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony in Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse, with a radio simulcast on SiriusXM’s Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Radio channel 310.
Presenters and Performers include Bryan Adams, Christina Aguilera, Drew Barrymore, Angela Bassett, Mickey Guyton, H.E.R., Jennifer Hudson, Paul McCartney, Lionel Richie and Taylor Swift.
The Induction Ceremony will air at a later date on HBO and stream on HBO Max.
