BNP Paribas Indian Wells, Miami Open Will Take Over Tennis With Much Madness

By Barry Janoff

February 25, 2025: An adage claims that “March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb.”

But for the BNP Paribas Indian Wells Open and Miami Open, the month is more akin to how John Belushi described it in a classic Saturday Night Live skit: “March comes in like a lion and goes out like a different lion.”

The two ATP Tour and Holgoic WTA Tour Masters 1000 eents have been referred to as Grand Slams but without the Grand Slam designation, and players, sponsors, media and fans treat them as such.

The back-to-back tournaments will again dominate the March tennis calendar: The BNP Paribas Open is March 2-16 at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden; the Miami Open presented by Itaú March 16-30 within Hard Rock Stadium.

Both will air exclusively on Tennis Channel.

Jannick Sinner will not be on-hand at the BNP Paribas Open or to defend his men’s singles title at the Miami Open — where he won $1.1 million last year — due to his three-month suspension by the World Anti-Doping Agency for two failed drug tests, one of which occurred during the 2024 BNP Paribas Open.

Two-time defending champion Carlos Alcaraz (2023-24) and Iga Swiatek will seek to secure their BNP Paribas Open men’s and women’s women’s singles titles, respectively — where they each earned $1.1 million last year from a total prize pool of more than $19 million.

Likewise, defending Miami Open women’s singles champion Danielle Collins is scheduled to return, seeking a $1,124,380 payday — which the new men’s singles champion will also earn — from a total of more than $18 million in prize money.

Also on the line: The Sunshine Double — winning the Indian Wells and Miami titles in the same year.

Since 1989, when Indian Wells joined Miami on the WTA calendar, only seven men and four women have done it, led by Roger Federer (three times) and Novak Djokovic (four times). It most recently was done by Swiatek in 2022.

In December, for the tenth consecutive year, the BNP Paribas Open was named the ATP Masters 1000 and WTA 1000 Tournament of the Year, as determined by player vote.

BNP Paribas Open organizers said the tournament has added three sponsors to its lineup, renewed relationships with three existing partners and maintained alliances with numerous others ahead of the 2025 event.

“Partners are critical to the continued success of Tennis Paradise, and we are thrilled to be adding three new world-class brands to the event’s global portfolio of partners,” Philippe Dore ,CMO, said via the BNP Paribas Open.

“We are also proud to be extending partnerships with three critical existing brands and keep collaborating with them to bolster the event experience for fans and players.”

La Roche-Posay joins as the official sunscreen partner of the BNP Paribas Open, aka Tennis Paradise.

Kim Crawford has been named the new official wine partner. Laykold is the new official court surface provider.

BMW has extended its relationship with the BNP Paribas Open. The events official luxury vehicle will continue to provide courtesy vehicles to players and display new car models on-site.

Also extending their deals, Motorola and Veroni will host a variety of activations at their respective booths in the Sponsor Village of the Indian Wells Tennis Garden.

BNP Paribas has been the event’s title sponsor since 2009.

Returning partners and sponsors also include Corona Premier, Dobel, Fila, Emirates, NetJets, Penn, Pepsi and Rolex.

Sponsor Village will have a variety of partner activations, player appearances and autograph sessions throughout the event.

Sponsor days include Emirates Day (March 8), Fila Day (March 9), Motorola Day (March 12), Rolex Day (March 14) and BNP Paribas Championship Weekend (March 15-16).

The Tennis Paradise Shop will serve as the main home for all official tournament merchandise as well as signature apparel and accessories. The Fila Retail Store and The Tennis Warehouse are also back for 2025.

At the Village Stage, John McEnroe’s Johnny Smyth Band is scheduled to return for 2025 to headline performances March 9. The full lineup of live Village Stage entertainment includes a variety of local Southern California artists performing throughout the two weeks

The Miami Open presented by Itaú said a record number of partners have aligned their support for the 40th edition of the tournament, both on and off court.

“We are delighted to welcome so many new sponsors to this year’s Miami Open presented by Itaú, as well as more than 30 valued returning partners,” Josh Ripple, svp-Tennis Events at IMG, which owns and organizes the Miami Open, said via the agency.

“Marking the 40th edition this year makes us want to raise the bar even higher for this special occasion and we believe that, together with this amazing family of sponsors, we are set to deliver our most impressive Miami Open to date.”

Returning partners include Itaú, presenting partner since 2015; and Dunlop, which renewed its commitment to the Miami Open through to 2027.

Also returning are such companies as Betway, Cadillac, the Dominican Republic Ministry of Tourism (official destination of the Miami Open), Emirates, Hologic, Lacoste, Longi, Public Investment Fund, Protective, Baptist Health, Fast Dry Courts, Tennis Plaza, Electrolit and Laykold.

New partners include Gillette Venus as the official razor of the Miami Open and Disney Cruise Line as official cruise line of the Miami Open.

InnBeauty Project, the official skincare of the Miami Open also debuts this year, joining La Roche-Posay, the official sunscreen, and Moroccanoil, the official hair care partner.

Tennis Channel said it would devote some 580 total hours to these events, with almost 245 live and another 335 hours of encores.

During the BNP Paribas Open, this means to close to 120 live and 158 encore hours. Starting March 5, daily telecasts begin with lead-in show Tennis Channel Live at the BNP Paribas Open.

Tennis Channel Live at the Miami Open will be a wrap-up instead of lead-in show, appearing immediately following the day’s live matches. In all, Tennis Channel plans to show about 125 live and more than 175 encore hours from the Hard Rock Stadium.

The network’s second channel, T2, will feature live matches that do not appear on Tennis Channel through much of each tournament. This includes 71 live and 145 encore hours in Indian Wells, and 75 live and 160 encore hours in Miami.
