March 24, 2025: With a roster of all-star players, investors and marketing partners, Unrivaled presented by Samsung Galaxy said its just-concluded first season was a success both on an off the court.
The pro women hoops 3x3 circuit co-founded by WNBA stars Breanna Stewart and Napheesa Collier said it averaged 221,000 viewers on TNT and truTV simulcast coverage for the entire season including playoffs, ending the season with 11.9 million total viewers reached.
The league said it generated more than 589 million earned and owned social media impressions.
The Unrivaled Championship game between Rose BC and Vinyl BC averaged 364,000 viewers, with a peak of 385,000 viewers.
Financially, Unrivaled said it topped $8.65 million total compensation earned by players between their salary pool, 1x1 Tournament, and Championship, on top of the equity they received in the league.
Each player on the championship-winning Rose BC club received $50,000. The average salary was upward of $235,000, according to industry analysts.
Total Unrivaled merchandise sales beginning in October 2024 "surpassed seven figures."
In February, Unrivaled formed an alliance with the Women’s National Basketball Players Assn. and OneTeam Partners “that expands commercial opportunities through both group licensing and sponsorship.”
Beginning March 3, in-person purchases of all Unrivaled player jerseys were available in Wayfair Arena, following that alliance, which allowed for the usage of individual player name, image and likeness for Unrivaled merchandise.
After all games resulted in sellouts at Wayfair Arena, Unrivaled ticket sales surpassed seven figures.
People attending Unrivaled games arrived from 44 different states in the U.S. and 13 countries outside the U.S.
The league reported $35 million in investments, including stars Stephen Curry, Cooo Gauff, Carmelo Anthony, Giannis Antetokounmpo and Michael Phelps; and business people such as David Levy, John Skipper, Richard Sarnoff and Gary Vaynerchuk.
Its roster of partners included Samsung Galaxy (Presenting and Official Technology Partner), Ally Financial (Founding and Official Banking Partner), Mediapro North America (Production and Hosting Partner), Miller Lite, Morgan Stanley, Coca-Cola brands Sprite and BodyArmor, State Farm, Under Armour, Wayfair (Arena Naming Rights Partner) and Wilson.
Owned and earned content across league and club accounts as well as fan conversation generated 589.1 million social media impressions, according to Unrivaled.
Social media aggregate audience surpassed more than 730,000. From the start of the regular season until the last day of the regular season, with growth on Unrivaled’s main social media accounts was led by Instagram (+104.73%), TikTok (+104.19%) Twitter/X (+58.51%) and YouTube (+93.29%).
Unrivaled commissioner Micky Lawler told AP Sports she was pleased with the league’s inaugural campaign. She said next season will likely continue with six teams, but expects the league could expand to other markets beyond Miami in the future.
More than 20 players are already under contract for the next two seasons, according to Unrivaled President Alex Bazzell.
“We’re going to look at areas of improvement that we could make within what we delivered this season,” Lawler said. “Starting a league is hard, and running it is also hard. And so we had to stay focused on delivering this, here, now. And then we can start to think beyond.” (Full story here.)
