The British Are Coming Back: Premier League Teams Plan U.S. Summer ’24 Tour

By Barry Janoff

February 23, 2024: With the 2026 FIFA Men’s World Cup in the U.S., Canada and Mexico in the ever-approaching future, international powerhouse soccer clubs continue to find fertile marketing grounds across America.

Premier League clubs Manchester United and Arsenal said they plan to return to the U.S. this summer — joined by Liverpool — to play a series of matches prior to their respective men’s first teams’ 2024-25 season.

Games are being scheduled in Los Angeles, Philadelphia and Columbia, SC.

This marks the second consecutive year that Manchester United and Arsenal men’s first-team squads have toured in the U.S.

Liverpool had planned to tour the U.S. last summer before changing its schedule.

“We had an incredible time during last year’s visit to the U.S. and we are pleased to be returning with the men’s team to prepare for the 2024-25 season, providing another opportunity for the club’s large and passionate U.S. fan base to see the team live,”  John Murtough, Manchester United’s football director, said via the club.

“The popularity of English football is continuously growing in the U.S., and we’ve come to expect passionate and enthusiastic support from our U.S. fan base. They didn’t disappoint last year and everyone at the club is looking forward to reconnecting with those fans again this summer.”

Last summer, United played four tour games across four states before of a total 235,168 fans, including a sold-out game against Arsenal in MetLife Stadium, East Rutherford, NJ.

The club said it is expecting similar high demand this summer.

Manchester United will face Arsenal in 70,000-seat SoFi Stadium, home to the NFL’s Los Angeles Rams and Los Angeles Chargers, scheduled for July 27.

Liverpool will face Arsenal in Philadelphia’s Lincoln Financial Field, scheduled for July 31.

The Manchester United match vs. Liverpool is scheduled for Aug. 3 in the University of South Carolina’s William Brice Stadium, Columbia, SC. which seats 77,559.

“Pre-season tours always present exceptional opportunities for our supporters, the team and our official partners to engage in memorable experiences within a key focus market for the club,” Ben Latty, Liverpool’s commercial director, said via the club.

“The USA is an important market for the club and our partners; with 67 official supporters clubs, international academies across 12 states, and the USA being the number one international market for our merchandising business.”

According to Latty, “We know millions of super-passionate American fans love this club and what we stand for, a fact underlined when our televised game with Arsenal in December became the most-watched Premier League game in U.S. history.”

In 2023, Manchester United played friendly games against Arsenal in MetLife Stadium, AFC Wrexham in San Diego’s Snapdragon Stadium, Real Madrid in Houston’s NRG Stadium and Borussia Dortmund in Allegiant Stadium, Las Vegas.

In addition to Manchester United, Arsenal faced the MLS All-Stars in Audi Field, Washington DC; and Barcelona in SoFi Stadium.
