December 4, 2024: Expanding on the theme that “If you build it, they will come,” FIFA has signed The Home Depot as the “official home improvement retail supporter” in the region for the 2026 Men’s World Cup, to be hosted by the U.S., Canada and Mexico.
The national retailer said people “can expect unique on-site ‘Built by The Home Depot” activation at FIFA Fan Festivals and stadiums.”
The Home Depot said it would also bring the World Cup experience to its associates and customers with opportunities to participate in FIFA World Cup efforts leading up to and during the 2026 tournament.
Financial terms of the pact were not shared.
"We are thrilled to host fans in our own backyard by becoming the official home improvement retail supporter to FIFA World Cup 26," Molly Battin, The Home Depot svp and CMO, said via the company.
"We know our customers love sports and we love connecting with them through their passions. We can't wait to help build the FIFA World Cup in Canada, Mexico and the U.S. — the communities where we live and work."
The Home Depot said it operates 2,345 stores across Canada, Mexico and the U.S. with a workforce of more than 465,000 associates.
“You don't get many opportunities where you have a North America-wide event happening of this scale," Doug Graham, vp-e-commerce and marketing for Home Depot Canada, told MSN Canada. "The rarity of this kind of event is pretty special”
“And you don't get many chances (at it). It's one of those pieces that you look at and if you start thinking about it economically, it can make you a little bit tense. But then you start thinking about it emotionally, what it means to the country and the countries, not just in North America but across the world to people, it's a pretty special opportunity."
The 2026 Men’s World Cup 104 games will be played in 16 cities, scheduled to begin June 11, 2026.
The final is scheduled for July 19 in MetLife Stadium, home to the NFL’s New York Giants and Jets.
Through its Orange Apron Media network, select supplier partners in exclusive categories will have the opportunity to participate in various FIFA World Cup 26 activations alongside The Home Depot.
"We are delighted to welcome The Home Depot as an official supporter of the FIFA World Cup 26,” FIFA secretary general Mattias Grafström said via the organization. “The Home Depot's commitment to innovation and community resonates with FIFA's values of inclusivity and global engagement.
“As we prepare for the most inclusive FIFA World Cup in history, featuring 48 teams, this partnership will bring unique opportunities for fans, as well as meaningful engagement for The Home Depot's customers and associates across the host countries.”
FIFA global partners include adidas, Aramco, Coca-Cola, Hyundai-Kia, Qatar Airways and Visa.
World Cup 26 sponsors include Anheuser-Busch (Budweiser), Bank of America, The Home Depot, PepsiCo’s Lay’s, McDonald’s, Mengniu, Dove Men+Care and Verizon.
