Golden Boldies: Topps Launches Gold Logo Patch Cards With Ohtani, Judge, Skennes

March 15, 2025: Topps has had such overwhelming success with its MLB Rookie Debut Patch Autograph platform that it is taking it to a Gold Logo Patch level.
Topps, a division of Fanatics, has unveiled the Gold MLB Patch in conjunction with MLB and uniform supplier Nike.
The Gold Patch initially will appear on the jersey back of just six players to honor their 2024 accomplishments: NL MVP Shohei Ohtani (Los Angels Dodgers), AL MVP Aaron Judge (New York Yankees), NL Cy Young winner Chris Sale (Atlanta Braves), ALCy Young Award winner Tarik Skubal (Detroit Tigers), NL Rookie of the Year Paul Skenes (Pittsburgh Pirates) and AL Rookie of the Year Luis Gil (Yankees).
These players will wear the Gold Patch on their jerseys throughout the 2025 season.
After the season, Topps said ten authenticated game-worn patches from each player would be used for exclusive autographed Logoman trading cards, which will be authenticated by Topps and MLB.
The Gold Patch will also appear on retail versions of each player’s jersey.
Ohtani debuted the Gold Patch today during an exhibition game against the Yomiuri Giants in Japan’s Tokyo Dome, where the Dodgers and Chicago Cubs are opening the ’25 MLB season in a two-game Tokyo Series (March 18-19).

In that platform, a 1/1 patch is placed on a jersey worn during a player’s first regular-season MLB game. The patch is removed after the game and a card for each respective player is created, then autographed by the player and authenticated by Topps and MLB..
Most notably, the Pirates this past November offered a bounty of team-related goodies to the person who found the Skenes 1/1 Rookie Debut Patch Autograph card that was part of the 2024 Chrome Update Series, from his first MLB game May 11 with the Pirates.
Topps offered $50,000 for the card.
However, the 11-year old from Los Angeles who found it in a pack at Christmas and his family put it up for auction via Fanatics Collect. Fanatics said it would donate its proceeds to to the American Red Cross and the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation.
Current bidding is at $600,000.
Topps has already added the Debut Patch Autograph cards to MLS products.
Topps said it plans to create Debut Patch Cards for football and basketball.
