U.S. Soccer Signs SportFive To Boost Worldwide Media, Awareness

NYSJ Sports-Entertainment Business News Service

April 17, 2023:
Calling it a plan to “increase the accessibility and reach for fans everywhere to support our U.S. National Teams,” the U.S. Soccer Federation has signed a multi-year alliance with global sports marketing agency SportFive ‘to help U.S. Soccer grow its media presence around the world.”

Under the deal, SportFive will look to secure international media distribution deals across television and digital platforms outside of the U.S. for U.S. Soccer’s teams and competitions, including the U.S. Men’s and U.S. Women’s National Teams, the SheBelieves Cup and the U.S. Open Cup.

The alliance comes ahead of the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia & New Zealand this summer, the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics and the 2026 FIFA Men’s World Cup hosted by the U.S., Mexico and Canada.

Financial terms were not shared.

“We’re thrilled to partner with SportFive as we continue to increase the accessibility and reach for fans everywhere to support our U.S. National Teams,” David Wright, U.S. Soccer chief commercial officer, said via the organization.

“In addition, the opportunity to provide more access for fans globally to enjoy the U.S. Open Cup, SheBelieves Cup, and other U.S. Soccer properties is an important step forward in our continued media evolution.”

SheBelieves Cup is a four-team women’s international tournament that is part of U.S. Soccer’s SheBelieves initiative to inspire and empower women and girls in sport and beyond.

The U.S. Open Cup is the oldest ongoing national soccer competition in the U.S. and the only official competition that is open to all professional and amateur teams affiliated with U.S. Soccer.

“U.S. Soccer is driving the growth of the sport across the country and is successfully positioning the United States at the forefront of international soccer,” Neil Glat, co-president, Americas at SportFive, said via the agency.

“Soccer fans have an incredible demand for the sport and want to watch the best soccer competitions, wherever they are played.  We are thrilled to be helping U.S. Soccer and its teams and competitions get additional exposure across international markets and provide even greater access to the very best of American soccer.”

In Europe, SportFive is the lead marketing partner for more than 70 soccer clubs across all leagues and federations, and also works with Asia football federations and select rights-holders in Africa.

In the U.S., SportFive represents teams and organizations including Atletico Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, FC Augsburg, Flamengo, New York City FC, Real Madrid TV, the USL, and a variety of teams participating in the UEFA Champions League and Europa League Qualifiers.
