April 16, 2024: MLB has jumped back into the water(s).
The league said today it has signed an alliance naming BlueTriton Brands its “official water partner.”
BlueTriton, a private-equity backed company, includes such regional water brands as Poland Spring, Deer Park, Ozarka, Ice Mountain, Zephyrhills, Arrowhead and Pure Life.
Stamford, Conn.-based BlueTriton Brands said the pact was “for at least the next three years.”
Financial terms were not revealed.
BlueTrion’s Poland Spring has been the official water of the New York Yankees and such events as the Boston Marathon, but the company said this was BlueTrion’s “first major sports league partnership.”
Although the alliance is new, some of BlueTriton’s brands date back to the beginnings of baseball.
“Since the earliest days of professional baseball, three of our brands — Poland Spring (est. 1845), Deer Park (est. 1872) and Saratoga (est. 1872) — were already hydrating the masses,” Kheri Tillman, BlueTriton CMO, said via the company.
“Just as MLB has been integral part of American culture for over 120 years, our refreshing water has been a family staple for countless generations of American families.”
MLB has not had an official water partner since the end of the 2016 season, according to industry analysts, when its alliance with PepsiCo (including Aquafina), ended. That deal began in 1997.
BlueTriton Brands said it plans to create special opportunities “throughout the season and across the country” via its regional spring water brands, including in-stadium and Jewel Events including the All-Star Game presented by MasterCard and the World Series presented by Capital One.
“It only feels natural that one of America’s beloved water companies joins forces with America’s favorite pastime,” said Tillman.
Nestle Waters N.A.was a subsidiary of Nestle S.A when it was acquired in 2021 for $4.3 billion by One Rock Capital Partners and Metropoulos and subsequently renamed BlueTriton Brands.
The deal included Poland Spring, Deer Park, Ozarka, Ice Mountain, Zephyrhills, Arrowhead.
