August 31, 2023: The NFL has alliances with numerous sports wagering platforms, and this season suspended several players for breaking its gambling policies.
Now, nine NFL teams and their venues are joining with MGM Resorts and BetMGM — the exclusive sports betting partner to MGM Resorts nationwide — and the American Gaming Assn. for a responsible gaming multi-platform campaign.
The move coincides with MGM Resorts and BetMGM among the companies and leagues joining with the American Gaming Assn. to promote Responsible Gaming Education Month in September.
MGM Resorts and BetMGM said they are among the first gaming operators to promote responsible gaming through marketing within league venues.
NFL team and stadium partners include:
• Arizona Cardinals: State Farm Stadium
• Baltimore Ravens: M&T Bank Stadium
• Denver Broncos: Empower Field at Mile High
• Detroit Lions: Ford Field
• Kansas City Chiefs: GHEA Field at Arrowhead Stadium
• Las Vegas Raiders: Allegiant Stadium
• New York Jets: MetLife Stadium
• Pittsburgh Steelers: Acrisure Stadium
• Tennessee Titans: Nissan Stadium
"This is an extraordinary moment as we work with our team partners to raise awareness about responsible gaming," Rhea Loney, BeMGM chief compliance officer, said via the platform.
"Throughout the season, GameSense will play a pivotal role in reminding football fans who bet, to do so responsibly."
GameSense is a responsible gaming program first developed and licensed to MGM Resorts in 2017 by the British Columbia Lottery Corp..
The program “focuses on positive, transparent, and proactive conversations with guests and customers about how to gamble responsibly.”
Among the initiatives during Responsible Gaming Education Month, MGM Resorts, BetMGM and NFL team partners will “place increased emphasis on empowering people to play responsibly, within legal and regulated markets; elevate employee training and community collaboration; and promote American Gaming Assn.’s Have A Game Plan. Bet Responsibly platform.”
American Gaming Assn. said sports wagering is legal in 34 states and the District of Columbia.
"The landscape of the gaming industry has evolved dramatically in recent years with the broad legalization of online gambling and sports betting,” Stephen Martino, svp chief compliance officer, MGM Resorts, said via the company.
“Collaboration among operators and stakeholders is essential to ensure that responsible gaming remains a top priority. These efforts are vital to giving guests, customers, employees, and companies the tools and information needed for a safe and enjoyable experience."
MGM Resorts and BetMGM said they are also committing more than $1 million annually to fund a variety of responsible gaming and problem gambling initiatives, including research, advocacy, prevention, marketing and organizational support.
”The AGA is proud to work alongside leaders like MGM Resorts and BetMGM to advance responsible gaming every day,” Casey Clark, svp, American Gaming Assn., said via the Washington DC-based organization.
“Their continued investment to elevate responsibility exemplifies the industry's commitments and the spirit of Responsible Gaming Education Month."
Partners for the Have A Game Plan. Bet Responsibly. PSA campaign — intended to “educate new and seasoned bettors on responsible sports wagering” — also include MLB, Nascar, the NBA, WNBA, PGA Tour, New York Jets, Monumental Sports (Washington Wizards, Washington Capitals) and MSG Networks (New York Knicks, New York Rangers).
