MLB A’s Playing In Sacramento, But Plan Being Ever Closer To Las Vegas

March 7, 2025: The former Oakland A’s are settling into Sacramento for the 2025 season, but the team continues to build its presence in Las Vegas for a planned 2028 move.
The A’s have signed a three-year marketing partnership with the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority as the team’s “official travel destination partner,” calling it a “major milestone” as the franchise prepares for its move to Southern Nevada in 2028.
Financial terms of the alliance were not shared.
The A’s and LVCVA will join for numerous activation. Perhaps most visible, debuting on Opening Day, March 27, the A’s will wear a “Las Vegas” patch on their sleeve for all home, road and alternate jerseys during the regular season and post-season.
According to the team, “More than just a uniform addition, this patch represents an important symbol in the A’s migration to Las Vegas and is a visual commitment to bringing the energy and excitement of Las Vegas to a broader audience.”
“For the Athletics, this partnership is more than just a jersey patch — it’s the beginning of the transition to our new home,” A’s owner John Fisher said via the team.
“This is a chance to wear our hearts on our sleeves for the next three years before bringing the vibrant spirit of our new home front and center across our uniform.”
The A’s will also wear two other new jersey patches for the 2025 season, one to celebrate the greater Sacramento area and another to honor franchise legend Rickey Henderson, who passed away in December.
During the alliance with LVCVA, people will have the opportunity to “engage with exclusive content, promotions and events that provide a sneak peek at what awaits baseball fans in Las Vegas.”
"Las Vegas will be in the spotlight during every A’s game over the next three years," Steve Hill, LVCVA CEO and president, said via the organization.
“Whether the team is on the field in Sacramento, Boston, or anywhere in between, this patch serves as a constant reminder that Major League Baseball is coming to Las Vegas and reinforces Las Vegas as a world-class sports destination."
The team is expect to break ground on a $1.75 billion, 33,000-seat Las Vegas stadium during the second quarter of 2025.
As part of their strategy to play it forward to Las Vegas, the team released updated renderings of the venue, unveiled a team-driven events in the Las Vegas community and signed a deal enabling people in Las Vegas to listen to all regular season, Spring Training and any potential post-season games on the HD2 channel of iHeartMedia’s 95.5 KWNR FM The Bull.
The A’s are scheduled to play the 2025-27 MLB seasons in Sutter Health Park in Sacramento, home of the Sacramento River Cats, the Triple-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants.
The NBA's Sacramento Kings are the majority owner of the River Cats.
The agreement includes an option to play the 2028 season in Sacramento should the stadium in Las Vegas not be completed by its expected opening date.
“To be here and to see the A’s logo, the A’s baseball on the Sphere and to do this amazing little thing with the LVCVA, I think you can say, ‘OK, this is real,’ ” Fisher said during a media event with LVCVA in Las Vegas.
“When we get our shovels in the ground and people start to actually see the stadium going up on the Strip, it’s going to be more real.”
