MLB Adds Travel Plans For ’24 Season: London, Mexico City, Seoul, Santo Domingo

UPDATED July 13, 2023: MLB officially unveiled its full 2024 regular-season schedule today, one day after sharing its schedule of international games as part of the MLB World Tour.
After the Seoul Series (March 20-21) begins the 2024 season with the Dodgers and Padres playing MLB’s first games in Korea, all 30 clubs are scheduled to play on Opening Day (Thursday, March 28).
All 30 teams are also scheduled to play on Jackie Robinson Day (April 15), Lou Gehrig Day (June 2), the Fourth of July and Roberto Clemente Day (Sept. 15).
Highlights will include two planned doubleheaders (Rangers at A’s on May 8, Rockies at Giants on July 27) and the 94th All-Star Game presented by MasterCard, July 16 in Globe Life Field, Arlington, TX.
As previously revealed, MLB will play a game in Birmingham, Ala., between the Cardinals and Giants in Rickwood Field, the oldest professional ballpark in the U.S. and the former home of the Negro Leagues’ Birmingham Black Barons, which will honor former Birmingham player Willie Mays.
The game is scheduled for June 20, 2024, and will air on Fox.
The regular season is scheduled to conclude Sept. 29.

July 12, 2023: With its visit to the All-Star Game in Seattle now inthe books, MLB has booked more travel plans for the 2024 season.
The league said today its MLB World Tour would include four international destinations in 2024: Mexico City, Seoul and Santo Domingo joining London.
The Boston Red Sox and Tampa Bay Rays will play Spring Training games in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, March 9-10.
The Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres are scheduled to play MLB’s first regular-season games in South Korea, opening the 2024 season in Seoul March 20-21.
The Houston Astros and Colorado Rockies are scheduled to play in Mexico City April 27-28.
Broadcast networks have not yet been named.
The previously unveiled London Series will see the New York Mets play the Philadelphia Phillies June 8-9 in London Stadium, with one game each to air on ESPN and Fox.
The 2024 games are part of MLB’s planned multi-year world tour, which saw games earlier this season in Mexico and upcoming planned games in France and the U.K.
The World Baseball Classic has also brought the game to global fans and global fans to the game.
"Major League Baseball is incredibly excited for this extensive slate of international games in 2024," commissioner Rob Manfred said via the league.
“Our recent efforts have produced strong enthusiasm around the globe, and we look forward to building on that foundation with returns to Mexico City and London, while also opening the season in Korea for the first time.
"We are thrilled that our fans across four different countries outside the United States and Canada will have the opportunity to see the game’s stars."
The Dodgers-Padres South Korea series will be MLB’s ninth international regular season opener outside the U.S. and Canada: Monterey, Mexico 1999; Tokyo 2000, 2004, 2008, 2012 and 2019; San Juan, Puerto Rico 2001; and Sydney, Australia 2014.
“Players have a deep interest in growing baseball around the world. No matter where they come from, players are linked by a passion for our game that transcends different languages, cultures, and nationalities,” Tony Clark, the executive director of the MLB Players Assn. executive director, said via the organization.
“The series announced today will allow fans around the globe to gain a first-hand appreciation for the unmatched skill and infectious enthusiasm players display every time they go to work. We are excited to expand our international presence in new communities and celebrate the game we all love.”
The Padres will be playing internationally for a second consecutive season following the 2023 Mexico City Series.
"Korea is a great baseball country with a rich tradition, passionate fans, and talented players, including current Padre and San Diego fan favorite Ha-Seong Kim," Padres CEO Erik Greupner said via the team.
"The Padres are proud to serve alongside the Dodgers as global ambassadors for the game of baseball with our historic 2024 Korea Series."
MLB said the Phillies have never played regular-season international game, leaving the U.S. and Canada only once, for a pair of exhibition games against the Pittsburgh Pirates in San Juan in 1977.
"Major League Baseball has done an excellent job of expanding its footprint internationally, and we are honored to play a role in that effort as part of the 2024 London Series," Phillies managing partner John Middleton said via the team.
"This will be a wonderful opportunity to showcase our players' talents and highlight the excitement that comes with a Phillies-Mets matchup for our fans in the U.K. and for those who have never attended a baseball game."
"To us, London is a really important part of our international strategy,” said Manfred. "We have seen great growth in baseball since we were here in 2019. The number of people in Britain that identify as fans has doubled since 2019.”
"We think our game is at its best when we have traditional rivals playing, and we want to show the fans here in London the very best form of baseball."
