Dr Pepper ‘Fansville’ Adds Caleb Williams, Takes Potshots At CFB Turbulence

By Barry Janoff

August 23, 2023: College football is back, and so is Dr Pepper’s "Fansville," the satirical episodic drama based in a fictional college football town.

For the sixth season of "Fansville," Dr Pepper has signed a season-long partnership with Caleb Williams, Heisman trophy winner, AP College Football Player of The Year and University of Southern California star quarterback and team captain.

Williams is featured in the opening spot for this season’s "Fansville" alongside his mom, Dayna Price, who join returning characters Logan, Jay, Natalie, Chuck, Charlotte, CJ, and "The Sheriff" Brian Bosworth.

"We're thrilled to announce our partnership with Caleb Williams for season six of 'Fansville,' where we continue to celebrate the passion and fandom of college football," John Alvarado, Dr Pepper svp-brand marketing, said via the company.

“Caleb is one of college football's greatest talents, and we admire his dedication, talent, and charisma both on the set of 'Fansville' and on the field.”

The premiere spot takes a humorous look, and offers stinging jabs, at the current state of college football, with multi-teams changing conferences, NIL a major factor, transfer portals and the coming of expanded college football playoffs in 2024.

“It’s the last year of college football as we know it,” offers a voiceover. “The road to the playoffs is expanding to 12 lanes and rivalries are crumbling.”

“Why are you leaving me?” a young woman asks her boyfriend from a rival university.

“TV revenue,” he replies, “You wouldn’t understand.”

As the voiceover offers, “The stars have arrived,” a TV screen shows Williams sitting at a table next to his mom. A crawl on the screen reads, “Caleb Williams Makes Decision.”

“This season I’ll be drinking Dr Pepper Strawberries and Cream,” he proclaims.

“Things are heating up and everyone's looking for transfers,” says the voiceover.

“It’s the transfer portal,” "The Sheriff" Brian Bosworth says as a storm rages, “It’s out of control.”

As part of their alliance, the Dr Pepper Tuition Giveaway program — entering its 15th year "having provided more than $17 million to support students' educational goals" — will partner with Caleb Cares Foundation, Willams’ platform that “focuses on eliminating bullying, empowering youth, and bringing awareness to mental health."

Activation will be revealed this fall.

"I am incredibly excited to be a part of this year's 'Fansville' campaign and to join Dr Pepper for another iconic season celebrating college football," said Williams via Dr Pepper.

"This partnership is even more special because we were able to involve my mom and my foundation, Caleb Cares, both of which are very close to my heart. Together, we'll create unforgettable moments in 'Fansville,' and I can't wait to bring that same energy to the upcoming season.".
