NBA Keeps Giving For The Holidays With Steph, LeBron, ‘Jingle Hoops Regifted’

By Barry Janoff
December 10, 2024: The NBA has become your favorite relative who continues to give gifts for the holidays.
On top of its day-long national five-game NBA on Xmas schedule — with all games on ESPN and ABC — and the previously unveiled “Dunk the Halls” alternate broadcast, the league has launched a multi-media campaign, “Jingle Hoops Regifted.”
The effort is literally a regift from 2013’s “Jingle Hoops.”
The original version featured Stephen Curry (Golden State Warriors), Kevin Durant (then with the Oklahoma City Thunder), LeBron James (then with the Cleveland Cavaliers), Steve Nash (then with the Los Angeles Lakers), Derrick Rose (Chicago Bulls) and James Harden (then with the Houston Rockets) shooting hoops and ringing bells attached to nets to the tune of “Jingle Bells.”
“Jingle Hoops Regifted” features animated versions of Curry, Durant (Phoenix Suns), James (Lakers), Luka Dončić (Dallas Mavericks) and Jayson Tatum (Boston Celtics), Jalen Brunson (New York Knicks), Anthony Edwards (Minnesota Timberwolves), Nikola Jokić (Denver Nuggets), Tyrese Maxey (Philadelphia 76ers) and Victor Wembanyama (San Antonio Spurs).
A toy figurine of ESPN’s Malika Andrews and a bobblehead of NBA on ABC’s Mike Breen also appear, providing commentary on the action.
The cast is somewhat different but the tune “Jingle Bells” and theme remains the same — supporting NBA on Christmas.
In addition to the 30-second ad, the campaign will feature four 10-second vignettes to air this month across NBA broadcast partners ESPN, ABC, TNT, truTV and NBA TV, as well as digital social media platforms including Twitter (X) and YouTube, OOH and audio assets.
Supporting the campaign is the NBA Hoopin’ Holiday Bus, which is scheduled to make stops in New York Dec. 21-22.
The NBA and ESPN are partnering on the activation, which will offer games, photo opportunities, hot cocoa and special surprises outside of the NBA Store on Fifth Avenue (11-7 PM ET Dec. 21) and near the Union Square holiday market (11-7 PM ET Dec. 22).
The league, Disney and ESPN are joining for an animated alternate broadcast of the Knicks hosting the San Antonio Spurs, the leadoff game for the five-game schedule on Dec. 25.
The virtual, live re-creation of the Spurs-Knicks game — “Dunk the Halls” — will be set on “Main Street, USA” in Magic Kingdom Park.
As the teams play, Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, Pluto, Goofy and Chip and Dale cheer them on. Shots of “Main Street, USA” and other famous landmarks within Magic Kingdom Park, including Cinderella’s Castle, will be regularly shown, .
"Dunk the Halls" will be presented on ESPN2, Disney+ and ESPN+.The special alt-cast is the first animated presentation of an NBA game and the first NBA game to stream on Disney+.
A supporting spot, “NBA Dunk The Halls,” shows Mickey Mouse sitting in his holiday-adorned living room writing a letter. A voiceover offers, “Mickey wants only one thing for Christmas — for Santa to bring the NBA to Main Street USA at Walt Disney World.
“Jingle Hoops Regifted” was produced in collaboration with Translation and directed by Dave Scanlon with live-action and animation by Passion Pictures
The NBA will feature five games on Christmas Day (Dec. 25) for the 17th year in a row, with each match-up available on ESPN, ABC, ESPN+ and Disney+.
