Watt’s Up: Former All-Pro J.J. Watt Tackles NFL Games As CBS Sports Analyst

By Barry Janoff
June 29, 2023: J.J. Watt, regarded as one of the best defensive players in NFL history and a future Hall of Famer, has signed a multi-year deal with CBS Sports to serve as a NFL studio analyst across all platforms.
Watt, who retired from the league after the 2022 season, is expected to make his first appearance on The NFL Today Sept. 10.
Financial terms of his deal were not released.
“Very excited to be joining the CBS crew for a few Sunday’s this fall!!” he posted to social media after initially posting, and correcting, “Just got a job at CVS.”
"Excited to be joining JB (James Brown), Coach (Bill Cowher), Boomer (Esiason) Phil (Simms) and Nate (Burleson) to talk NFL. Now I have a global platform to make fun of my brothers (NFL players Derek and TJ). Let’s have some fun.”
CBS Sports also recently added NFL quarterback Matt Ryan to its broadcast team, although Ryan said he has not retired.
“We are thrilled to welcome J.J. to the CBS Sports family and add one of the greatest defensive players of all time to our team,” David Berson, president, CBS Sports, said via the network.
“As he steps off the field after a Hall of Fame career, J.J. brings deep passion, unique insights and opinions from today’s NFL. We think fans will love what J.J. brings to our coverage.”
This is the second major move Watt has made since he retired. Last month, he and his wife, former U.S. Women’s National Team member Kealia Watt, became investors in the Burnley Football Club.
“I love the game too much to be away from it entirely,” Watt said via CBS Sports. ”I’m very excited to be joining CBS Sports to contribute across all their NFL shows and platforms.
“Hopefully, fans will enjoy the insights and knowledge I’ve gained over my 12 years in the NFL, and if we’re lucky, we’ll share a few laughs along the way as well.”Selected by the Houston Texans in the first round of the 2011 Draft out of Wisconsin (No. 11 overall), Watt played 12 seasons with the Texans (2011-20) and Arizona Cardinals (2021-22).
A five-time NFL First-Team All Pro and five-time Pro Bowl selection, Watt was named NFL Defensive Player (2012, 2014, 2015) of the Year three times and also honored as the 2017 Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year.
He is the only player in NFL history to record multiple seasons with at least 20 sacks, finishing his career with 114.5 sacks.
He was named to the NFL 2010's All-Decade Team and will be inducted into the Texans' Ring of Honor this coming season.
