MLB Builds Social Presence, Enhances YouTube Alliance With Exclusive Games

MLB has added to its deal with YouTube, with the sockial media platform getting exclusive access to 13 regular-season games during the second half of the season.

The games will be available via a dedicated channel on YouTube and YouTube TV in the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico.

Among other MLB activation, YouTube TV has been the presenting sponsor for the World Series the past two seasons.

MLB has also been building its alliances with social media platforms including Twitter and Facebook.

“With the media consumption habits of our fans continuing to evolve, MLB is committed both to expanding our roster of national broadcast platforms and to presenting live games in new ways to our fans,” Chris Tully, evp-global media for MLB, said via the league.

The games will be exclusive on the MLB YouTube channel and on a dedicated channel on YouTube TV.

The channel “will be a temporary pop-up specific to MLB that appears when the live content is coming through the feed,” according to YouTube.

The streamed games will also include a pre- and post-game shows.

“It’s incredible to team up with Major League Baseball for this first-of-its-kind deal together to provide both diehard baseball fans and our YouTube community with live games exclusively on YouTube and YouTube TV,” Timothy Katz, head of sports and news partnerships for YouTube, said via the Google-owned company.

“With Major League Baseball’s expanding international fan base, we are confident YouTube’s global audience will bring fans around the world together in one place to watch the games and teams they love.”

The schedule of games will be unveiled as the launch gets closer.

According to Tully, “YouTube is an enormously popular video platform with impressive global reach and has served as a great environment for baseball fans to consume the game they love,.

“We are excited to expand our partnership with YouTube to provide fans with an exclusive, customized live game viewing experience.”
