WWE WrestleMania 36 Making Plans To Take Over Tampa Bay In 2020

By Barry Janoff

March 7, 2019: Hulk Hogan, Roman Reigns, Sasha Banks, Bailey, Charlotte Flair, Triple H, Stephanie McMahon and Vince McMahon were all in attendance, so you know it must have been a big *@#%*#% deal.

WWE today unveiled the site and date for its next WresleMania mega-event: Tampa Bay’s Raymond James Stadium, home to the NFL’s Buccaneers, on Sunday, April 5, 2020, to air live on WWE Network.

WrestleMania 36 will be the center of a series of events in Tampa Bay, including WrestleMania Axxess, which is WWE’s interactive fan festival; as well as four nights of events: SmackDown Live, the 2020 WWE Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, NXT TakeOver and Monday Night Raw.

This will be WrestleMania’s first time in Tampa Bay but fourth time overall in Florida, including twice in Orlando (WrestleMania 24 and 33) and Miami (WrestleMania 28).

“I can’t tell you how exciting it is to be bringing WrestleMania right here to Tampa Bay for the first time in over 35 years (of the event),” Stephanie McMahon, chief brand officer for WWE, said during a media conference to unveil the program.

“It’s amazing to me that we have not been here, which only means that we have to blow WrestleMania out of the water and make Tampa Bay the best one yet.”

Over the past 12 years, WrestleMania has generated more than $1.2 billion in cumulative economic impact for the cities that have hosted the event, according to WWE.

WWE said that WrestleMania 34, held on April 8, 2018, in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, generated $175 million in economic impact for the greater New Orleans region; and approximately $23.7 million in federal, state and local taxes, according to a study conducted for WWE and New Orleans by the Enigma Research Corp.

WrestleMania 33 in the Orlando Citrus Bowl in 2017 generated $181.5 million in direct, indirect and induced impact derived from spending in the Orlando region, still a WrestleMania record.

WrestleMania 35 is scheduled for April 7, 2019, in MetLife Stadium, East Rutherford, NJ, streaming live on WWE Network.

Raymond James Stadium can seat up to 75,000. If filled, it would be among the Top Ten all-time WrestleMania attendance figures. The record was set during WrestleMania 32 in 2016 when more than 101,760 were in AT&T Stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys.

According to Tampa mayor Bob Buckhorn, "Our region enjoys a special place in sports entertainment history and has produced many of its iconic figures. We look forward to WWE fans from around the world converging on our city in 2020 to enjoy all that we have to offer.”

“WWE will do 560-plus live events a year and it does’t get any bigger for us than WrestleMania,” said Paul “Triple H” Levesque, evp-talent, live events and creative for WWE.

Hulk Hogan opened the media conference by talking about his personal WrestleMania experiences, including teaming with Mr. T in the main event of the first WrestleMania, slamming Andre the Giant in front of 93,000 members of the WWE Universe at WrestleMania III and battling The Rock at WrestleMania X8.

According to Hogan, “A whole next generation of WWE Superstars, the whole WWE Universe, they’re going to have the same experience right here in Tampa Bay, right here at Raymond James Stadium next year, right at this time at WrestleMania 36!”

As part of its activation in Tampa Bay, WWE said it would also host more than a dozen community outreach events, including hospital visits and Be a STAR bullying prevention rallies, designed to give back to the local region.

“For each of our fans, WrestleMania is a chapter or more in the history their lives,” said McMahon. “People all around the world will be talking about WrestleMania 36 at Raymond James Stadium. Most importantly, our goal is to leave a lasting impression on the community.”

Ticket information has not yet been released.
