WWE Has Plans To Cover Brooklyn With Festivities For SummerSlam 2018

NYSJ Sports-Entertainment Business News Service

August 7, 2018: Do you believe that WWE would have a major event in Brooklyn, NY, and not host a mega-party with plenty of Brooklyn landmarks and food to end all parties?

Fugetaboutit!

SummerSlam 2018  is Aug. 19 in Barclays Center, home of the NBA’s Brooklyn Nets, which will stream live on WWE Network (7 PM ET).

Marketing partners include Cricket Wireless and MLB Tap Sports Baseball 2018.

SummerSlam is scheduled to feature the likes of Brock Lesnar, Roman Reigns, Jeff Hardy, Nakamura, Seth Rollins, Dolph Ziggler, Finn Baylor, Baron Corbin; and two much-anticipated confrontations on the women’s side: Alexa Bliss vs. Ronda Rousey for the Women’s Raw championship and Carmella vs. Charlotte Flair vs. Becky Lynch for the Women’s SmackDown Live title.

But the event will be the culmination of days of activation in Brooklyn, the fourth consecutive year the borough has hosted SummerSlam.

As part of WWE’s SummerSlam Week, Triple H and Stephanie McMahon will appear at a special "Meet & Greet with the WWE Universe" in Barclays Center, Friday, Aug. 17, with proceeds benefiting Connor’s Cure, a pediatric cancer fund started in 2014 by Triple H and McMahnon in 2014 to honor WWE fan Connor Michalek, who passed away that year at the age of 9.

On her Twitter account, McMahon said the sold-out event has already raised $30,000.

The MiLB Brooklyn Cyclones and WWE have partnered for SummerSlam Night at MCU Park on Thursday, Aug. 16, also raising funds for Connor’s Cure.

As part of the night’s action, the Cyclones will wear special Connor’s Cure jerseys featuring the “championship belt” style logo around the waste and beads on the sleeves inspired by the Connor’s Cure Bracelets that are sold to benefit the fund.

Ten jerseys will be raffled off that evening in park with the remaining items available at the Cyclones Web site. (Details here.)

The auction will start Friday, Aug. 17 at Noon (ET).

Fans will be able to purchase a $20 ticket, which will include a Field Box Ticket, Connor’s Cure Bracelet and charitable donation. For each package sold, a bracelet will also be donated to a children’s hospital. (Details here.)

Several WWE stars are scheduled to join the Cyclones at the ballpark that night.

Among other SummerSlam’s week of the Brooklyn takeover will be hospital visits, a "Be a STAR" Bullying Prevention Rally, Make-A-Wish and interaction with other New York teams, which last year included the Yankees and Mets; as well as ringing the closing bell at the New York Stock Exchange.
