Update: Errani, Vavassori Win U.S. Open Grand Slam Re-Mixed Doubles Competition

UPDATED August 21, 2025: Italians Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori completed their run through the U.S. Open Mixed Doubles Championship presented by Vital Proteins by defeating No. 3 seeds Iga Swiatek and Casper Ruud in a captivating final, 6-3, 5-7, 10-6, inside Arthur Ashe Stadium on Wednesday night.
Not only does the win mark back-to-back championships in Flushing Meadows for the Italians, it also adds to their 2025 Grand Slam haul after their Roland Garros title this spring.
“We are doing something in these two years [together] that’s amazing,” Vavassori said during the trophy ceremony, before addressing his partner. “I have to saysd thank you for your energy on the court. It’s like family to play with you.”
The champions will be rewarded with a $1 million winners' check along with the first Grand Slam trophy of the 2025 US Open. (Full story here.)
UPDATED August 19, 2025: Jannik Sinner and Katerina Siniakova have withdrawn from the U.S. Open Mixed Doubles Championship presented by Vital Proteins. The withdrawal comes after Sinner was forced to retired due to illness during the Cincinnati Open final against Carlos Alcaraz on Monday.
Their place in the draw will be filled by Danielle Collins and Christian Harrison, as they were the duo with the highest combined singles ranking that signed in by 10:30 AM (ET) today. Priority for the alternate was given to those that had been entered by the initial July 28 deadline.
Order Of Play
UPDATED August 18, 2025: The full 16-team field and draw for the blockbuster U.S. Open Mixed Doubles Championship presented by Vital Proteins were unveiled.
The following transactions filled out the final, 16-team field:
World No. 1 and defending U.S. Open men's singles champion Jannik Sinner, originally entered with Emma Navarro (who withdrew), re-paired with ten-time Grand Slam women's doubles champion Katerina Siniakova. That team received a wild-card entry into the field.
Jasmine Paolini withdrew after advancing to the Cincinnati Open final. Her previous partner, Lorenzo Musetti, re-paired with Caty McNally. That team also received a wild-card entry into the field.
World singles No. 6 and reigning Australian Open women's singles champion Madison Keys and world No. 14 and two-time U.S. Open men's singles semifinalist Frances Tiafoe received direct entry based on their combined singles ranking on July 28.
World singles No. 11 Andrey Rublev and No. 14 Karolina Muchova also received direct entry based on their combined singles ranking on July 28. Additionally, two-time U.S. Open women's singles champion Naomi Osaka and former U.S. Open men's singles semifinalist Gael Monfils also received a wild-card entry into the field.

U.S. Open organizers said each of their original partners — Jannik Sinner, Jack Draper and Jessica Pegula, respectively — are allowed to re-pair up until 2 PM (ET) Aug. 17, and maintain direct entry dependent on their combined team singles ranking, as of the entry deadline on July 28, with their new partner.
Jessica Pegula and Jack Draper have re-paired together. Because of their combined singles ranking of No. 9 at the entry deadline, they have received direct entry into the draw.
Jasmine Paolini and Lorenzo Musetti have moved into the draw via direct entry as a result of the withdrawals and re-pairings.
As of Aug. 15, the teams in the 2025 US Open Mixed Doubles Championship field via direct entry, listed by combined singles ranking, include:

The reimagined mixed doubles tournament will be played on Tuesday, Aug. 19, and Wednesday, Aug. 20, in the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, with $1 million in prize money being awarded to the winning team.
July 29, 2025: Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz, Iga Świątek, Madison Keys, Jessie Pegula, Novak Djokovic, Frances Tiafoe, Emma Radacanu, Taylor Townsendand Venus Williams today were confirmed as participants by the U.S. Tennis Assn. for its U.S. Open Mixed Doubles Championship event Aug. 19-20 as part of the U.S. Open Grand Slam (Aug. 24-Sept. 7).
The USTA also said Vital Proteins collagen brand has signed as as presenting sponsor of the 2025 U.S. Open Mixed Doubles Championship and the first “official collagen of the U.S. Open.”
This year, the event — with a $1 million top prize — was moved from the third week of the tournament, its traditional place on the calendar, to the first week during U.S. Open Fan Week “to enable top singles stars to compete together and to give this Grand Slam Championship center stage,”
Eight teams received direct entry and six teams received wild cards. Two remaining wild card teams are TBD.
Events from both days will air on ESPN platforms.
“In our initial discussions about reimagining and elevating the US Open Mixed Doubles Championship, we wanted to find a way to showcase the world’s best men and women competing with and against one another,” Lew Sherr, USTA CEO and executive director, said via the organization. “And we were confident that we would be able to get the top players in the game excited about this unique opportunity.
“Seeing the teams that have already put their names on the entry list makes us all incredibly excited. It shows that the players are behind what we are trying to do, and we know that the fans will love it.”
This week’s ATP and WTA singles rankings were used to determine the eight teams receiving direct entry. Belinda Bencic entered with a protected ranking of No. 15.
Vital Proteins will have extensive presence during the 2025 U.S. Open Mixed Doubles Championship event days, including on-site product sampling, surprise-and-delight moments and content opportunities.
Vital Proteins said the alliance is “designed to reinforce its commitment to promoting the benefits of collagen peptides, and connecting with wellness-minded consumers and tennis fans alike.”
The 14 teams include eight men and six women ranked in the Top Ten in singles and nine Grand Slam singles champions. The list also features defending U.S. Open Mixed Doubles Champions Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori and current women’s doubles world No. 1 Taylor Townsend.
All matches will be played in Arthur Ashe Stadium or Louis Armstrong Stadium at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, Flushing, NY.
