• Showtime Sports will launch on Oct. 21 a weekly podcast, All The Smoke with Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson, in which the two NBA veterans (now retired) and NBA champs (Golden State Warriors and San Antonio Spurs, respectively), will “deliver an authentic, unfiltered perspective on the most polarizing topics in and around the game of basketball.”  It will air Thursdays on the Showtime Basketball YouTube Channel.  

• Bluberi Gaming has signed a deal with WWE to develop a series of licensed slot games featuring WWE Superstars and Legends. Among those to be featured include John Cena, Triple H, Becky Lynch, Roman Reigns and Ronda Rousey. The first WWE series of slot games is scheduled to hit casinos October 2020.

• HarperCollins Publishers said it has acquired world rights to Back, the first memoir authored by Tiger Woods. According to Woods, “This book is my definitive story. It’s in my words and expresses my thoughts.” A publication date was not given.

• Turner Sports’ eLeague has signed a deal with tech solutions and services provider CDW to “create enhanced fan experiences across eLeague’s properties on TV, digital, social and in-arena.” The alliance also names CDW an “official arena partner” for eLeague and the Rocket League Championship Series. • Halloween this year is Oct. 31, and retailers, marketers and consumers are ready for another season of trick-or-treat. Total spend on Halloween 2019 is expected to reach $8.8 billion according to the National Retail Federation, Washington, DC. Full story here. 

• The Paley Center for Media, NY, will honor the 100th season of the NFL with a new exhibit: "A Century of Football: Celebrating the NFL’s 100th Season," free and open to the public (thru Oct. 27).

Under Armour Puts Bryce Harper On-Par With Curry, Spieth In Long-Term Alliance

May 4, 2016: Having rolled the dice and cashed in big with Stephen Curry and Jordan Spieth, Under Armour is now set to ante up with Bryce Harper.

The sports apparel and footwear company has signed a new deal with Harper that is expected to extend their alliance for another decade. Financial terms were not released.

Harper, last season's NL MVP with the Washington Nationals, first aligned with the company in 2011, just prior to his rookie MLB season.

The deal is comparable to the one Under Armour has with Curry, which late last year extended their pact through 2024, with Curry also getting an equity stake, according to industry analysts. Curry was the first Under Armour athlete to have his own signature shoe line.

The Baltimore-based company last year also signed a new ten-year deal with top-ranked pro golfer Spieth.

"No other company I would want to be with!," Harper wrote on his InstaGram account. "Can't wait to show the world what is coming..lets have some fun! #Family #TeamUA."

The pact will see the release of Harper's first signature spikes — the Harper One — in July.

"Under Armour has been one of my biggest advocates since I began my professional journey, and I can't wait to share what's next with the fans," Harper said in statement.

Under Armour said that Harper would continue to appear in marketing campaigns for its training and lifestyle products and its Connected Fitness platforms, as well as for his signature shoe.

Harper also has endorsement alliances that include Gatorade and New Era.

During the company's Q1 financial conference call last month, Kevin Plank, Under Armour founder and CEO, highlighted the success of its brand ambassadors as keys to growth.

"For the past 24 consecutive quarters or six years, we have driven net revenue growth above 20% and we are incredibly proud of our start to 2016 with first quarter net revenue growth of 30%," said Plank. "In footwear, this includes the remarkable success of the Stephen Curry signature basketball line, as well as the exciting launches of our first smart running shoe and our new line of Jordan Spieth-inspired golf shoes."

According to Peter Murray, vp-global sports marketing for Under Armour, “Bryce embodies our brand’s founding philosophy of ‘aggressive, young and fearless,’ and we look forward to continuing to aid in his upward progression in the sport of baseball.

"We admire his heart for the game, and are proud of what he’s accomplished in the five years since he first teamed up with us at Under Armour. He has a bright future ahead, and we’re really thrilled to be a part of his team on this journey," said Murray.

Under Armour also has deals that include Tom Brady, Cam Newton, Michael Phelps, Misty Copeland and Dwyane 'The Rock' Johnson.

The Under Armour Harper One will be available at Dick’s Sporting Goods, Eastbay and via Under Armour’s Web site on July 15. The first colorway of the cleat is black and gold in deference to his NL MVP award last season.
