• The Professional Baseball Agreement between MLB and minor league teams expires at the end of the 2020 season. But if a new MLB proposal were to become reality, more than three dozen cities with affiliated minor league teams will lose those teams a year from now and thousands of minor league players will be out of work as well. • Showtime Sports will launch on Oct. 21 a weekly podcast, All The Smoke with Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson, in which the two NBA veterans (now retired) and NBA champs (Golden State Warriors and San Antonio Spurs, respectively), will “deliver an authentic, unfiltered perspective on the most polarizing topics in and around the game of basketball.”  It will air Thursdays on the Showtime Basketball YouTube Channel.  

• Bluberi Gaming has signed a deal with WWE to develop a series of licensed slot games featuring WWE Superstars and Legends. Among those to be featured include John Cena, Triple H, Becky Lynch, Roman Reigns and Ronda Rousey. The first WWE series of slot games is scheduled to hit casinos October 2020.

• HarperCollins Publishers said it has acquired world rights to Back, the first memoir authored by Tiger Woods. According to Woods, “This book is my definitive story. It’s in my words and expresses my thoughts.” A publication date was not given.

• Halloween this year is Oct. 31, and retailers, marketers and consumers are ready for another season of trick-or-treat. Total spend on Halloween 2019 is expected to reach $8.8 billion according to the National Retail Federation, Washington, DC. Full story here.

Telemundo Deportes Women’s 2019 FIFA World Cup Plans Coming Into Focus

December 11, 2018: With the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup France just six months off, NBCUniversal's Telemundo Deportes has unveiled its initial coverage plans for the month-long tournament from June 7-July 7.

As the exclusive Spanish-language home of the tournament, Telemundo Deportes said it would offer the “biggest multi-media coverage in Spanish-language media history, with more matches on linear TV than ever, streaming of all matches and extensive coverage on digital and social media."

All 52 matches will air live on Telemundo, Universo and the Telemundo Deportes and NBC Sports apps.

“With the draw results, we look to finalize our plans to bring the most extensive Spanish-language multi-media coverage ever presented around the FIFA Women’s World Cup,” Ray Warren, president for Telemundo Deportes, said via the network.

“Our coverage will follow the action on the field and incorporate in-depth analysis featuring renowned soccer stars and compelling storytelling across all platforms highlighting the best stories around the tournament.”

Fox and FS1 have the exclusive English-language rights in the U.S.

Telemundo Deportes said it would “roll out an aggressive campaign to promote the "summer of soccer" on Telemundo, leveraging the concurrent coverage of FIFA Women’s World Cup and Copa America 2019.”

More than 80 matches will be played over 38 days in two continents.

The marketing efforts will incorporate on and off-channel, digital and cross promotion across NBCUniversal platforms.

FIFA global partners that will have significant marketing efforts include adidas, Coca-Cola, Hyundai-Kia Motors, Qatar Airways, Wanda Group and Visa.

Telemundo special programming and regular daily programming will support its coverage of the FIFA Women’s World Cup France.

Telemundo Deportes’ team of commentators will be include five-time Emmy award winner Andrés Cantor, with Ana Jurka serving as the main host of the event in Paris.

Defending World Cup Champion, the U.S. Women’s National Team is in Group F along with Thailand, Chile and Sweden.

Host France will face South Korea, Norway and Nigeria in Group A.

Two-time World Champion Germany will face China, Spain and South Africa in Group B.
Group C includes Jamaica will make its debut in the tournament competing against Australia, Brazil and Italy.

Argentina, back in the tournament for the first time since 2007, will face Japan, England and Scotland in Group D.

Canada, the Netherlands, New Zealand and Cameroon are in Group E.
