February 13, 2014: Russell Westbrook, the All-Star point guard for the NBA's Oklahoma City Thunder, has signed a deal to represent Subway in marketing and activations.
Financial terms were not disclosed.
The alliance was unveiled at a Subway location in Westwood, located in Los Angeles, where Westbrook served customer alongside long-time Subway spokesperson Jared Fogel.
The first people that Westbrook, a native of Long Beach, Calif., served where his parents, according to Subway. Subway said that Westbrook's favorite sandwich — which all Subway spokespersons must have to "pass" the endorsement test— is Chicken Bacon Ranch on wheat bread with lettuce, salt, pepper, oil and vinegar. For a healthier alternative, he goes for a six-inch Sweet Onion Chicken Teriyaki on wheat bread with lettuce, salt and pepper.
"Excited 2 be a part of the @SUBWAY Famous Fan Family & great time dressing up subs w/ @thejaredfogle today! #EatFresh," Westwood posted on his Twitter account.
Westbrook also has endorsement deals that include Nike's Jordan Brand, Foot Locker and Kings & Jaxs, which manufactures men's underwear.
Westbrook was injured during the first round of the NBA playoffs last season, and currently is out after knee surgery this past December.
Westbrook joins a Subway roster of "Famous Fans" that includes Pelé, Robert Griffin III, Michael Phelps, Ryan Howard, Justin Tuck, Jarvis Jones, Apolo Ohno, Nastia Liukin, Mike Lee and Eric LeGrand.
Phelps, Tuck and RGIII were among those who congratulated Westbrook via Twitter.
