Tony Stewart, Friends Get All Animated Over Mobil 1 Molecular Engineering, Viscosity

By Barry Janoff

May 23, 2014: Fans of Nascar know that Tony Stewart can be described as an animated type of guy.

Thanks to Mobil 1 Synthetic Motor Oil and the McLaren Mercedes Formula 1 team, they can again say that he literally is animated in a humorous effort that touches on such topics as molecular engineering, viscosity and extreme temperatures.

Stewart reprises his role as an animated character in Mobil 1's Tooned, which uses cartoon drivers to explain how the product works. The spot, "Oil: An Odyssey," also stars Formula 1 world champion Jenson Button and driver Kevin Magnussen.

They are schooled by Professor M about Mobil 1 synthetic motor oil.

The effort, which combines elements of Bill Nye the Science Guy and The Magic School Bus, is a follow-up to the 2013 animated Tooned shorts, "What's It Oil About" and "The History of Lubrication," both of which starred Stewart with fellow drivers.

It also supports 20th anniversary of the technology partnership between ExxonMobil and McLaren Mercedes.

“Fans of the Tooned series are in for a fun and exciting ride,” Artis Brown, motorsports manager for ExxonMobil, said in a statement “In this year’s installment, we get the chance to highlight our lubricant technology partnership with McLaren Mercedes as we celebrate our 20th anniversary this race season. We also have a unique opportunity to showcase the science and history that has helped make Mobil 1 the world’s leading synthetic motor oil.”

Three two-minute episodes will run on a dedicated Mobil 1 YouTube destination, and via Stewart's and the McLaren Web sites. Support includes such social media destinations as Twitter and Facebook.

Mobil 1 said the episodes also would be released in Russian and Mandarin Chinese this summer.

As explained by Mobil 1, the clips feature the three drivers "taking a fun and informative journey through the technological benefits of Mobil 1 synthetic motor oil covering molecular engineering, viscosity and extremes in temperature."

According to Stewart, “This is my second time participating in the Tooned series. Each new adventure is more fun than the last. Mobil 1 is a great partner, and this series is another example of just how passionate they are about motorsports and engine oil innovation.”

Stewart recently starred in a series of videos for Mobil 1 under the umbrella Hollywood-themed "Smoke Is The Bandit," a takeoff on the Smokey and the Bandit films starring Burt Reynolds.
