State Farm Joins NBA 2K League eSports Roster Of First Season Marketing Partners

Long-time NBA partner State Farm has now signed on to become an official partner for the inaugural season of the NBA 2K League.

The insurance firm joins brands already aligned with the NBA 2K League including  Twitch, Intel, Dell (and its elite gaming brand, Alienware), Nike’s Jordan Brand, New Era, HyperX, and Scuf Gaming.  

The NBA 2K League launched in early May with teams representing 17 NBA clubs.

“As a longstanding partner of the NBA and the WNBA, State Farm has a proven history of authentically connecting with fans and has demonstrated a commitment to eSports,” Brendan Donohue, managing director for NBA 2K League, said in a statement.

“We’re excited for State Farm to engage with our NBA 2K League community through helping create unique content and compelling storylines about our players.”

Among other activation, State Farm will present pre-game segments, “Game Mode,” that “capture strategy and insights from NBA 2K League players on Twitch broadcasts throughout the season.”

State Farm will also have a weekly highlights segment, “Game Time,” on NBA2KLeague.com.

Both "Game Mode" and "Game Time" will extend to league social channels.

Marketing support includes State Farm courtside signage during in-season tournaments and NBA 2K League Finals games.

According to Ed Gold, advertising director for State Farm, “We’re enthusiastic about eSports and the NBA 2K League was an exciting way to extend our working relationship with the NBA.”

State Farm is the NBA’s most active partner, with 68% of properties with a sponsor in the insurance category report a partnership with the insurance firm, according to the 2018 ESP NBA Sponsorship Spend Report.
