By Barry Janoff
March 4, 2014: We won't know the full roster of teams participating in the 2014 NCAA Div. I Men's Basketball Tournament until Selection Sunday on March 16, be we do now know the nucleus of the line-up of musicians who will participate in the March Madness Music Festival.
The three-day event, to be held April-4-6 in Dallas, will star the likes of Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, Tim McGraw, Jason Aldean, The Killers and fun.
The free event, to be held in Reunion Park, is comprised of three platforms: the AT&T Block Party (April 4), the Coca-Cola Zero Countdown (April 5) and the Capital One JamFest (April 6).
A launch spot to support the March Madness Musical Festival highlights each of the performers and hints at other activations to come. (See the full spot here.)
The music festival is run under the auspices of the NCAA and is produced by Turner Live Events. It is being held in conduction with the men's Final Four, taking place in AT&T Stadium, home of the NFL's Dallas Cowboys, on April 4 and April 7.
“The NCAA Men’s Final Four is college basketball’s biggest party, and nothing brings fans from competing schools together to celebrate the anticipation quite like the Coke Zero Countdown Concert,” Sharon Byers, svp-sports & entertainment and community marketing for Coca-Cola North America, said in a statement. “Coke Zero is proud to partner with the NCAA and Turner Sports and present Tim McGraw and The Killers — two acts famous for their memorable performances. We can’t imagine a better countdown to the tip off of Saturday’s semi-final games.”
The AT&T Block Party stars Aldean. In addition to McGraw and The Killers, the Coke Zero Countdown will include a live broadcast of the first semi-final game. The Capital One JamFest stars Springsteen and fun. Additional performances will be added to each concert.
The Killers will also be featured as the musical backdrop for the 2014 NCAA March Madness video campaign featured across Turner Broadcasting and CBS Sports linear and digital platforms.
For the fourth year of their co-production, Turner Sports and CBS Sports will provide live coverage of all 67 games across four networks: CBS and Turner's TBS, TNT and truTV. For the first time, both semi-final games on April 5 will air live across the three Turner networks.
CBS has the exclusive broadcast for the national championship game on April 7.
“As an NCAA corporate champion, we look to help fans connect with their passion for both sports and music,” Jamie Kerr, director-corporate sponsorships for AT&T, said in a statement. “Throughout Final Four weekend in North Texas, fans can enjoy unique and interactive experiences courtesy of AT&T at both the March Madness Music Festival and Bracket Town (FanFest).”
According to Roger Ferguson, managing vp-brand advertising, media and sponsorships for Capital One, “Capital One is thrilled to bring this incredible musical lineup to fans during this year’s Final Four.
