If The Shoe Fits: Skechers Extends Marketing Alliances With Montana, Cuban

December 2, 2013: Shoe and apparel fitness company Skechers USA said it has extended deals with two of its mainstay sports spokespersons: Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback Joe Montana and Mark Cuban, businessman and owner of the NBA's Dallas Mavericks.

Montana has signed through 2015 and Cuban through 2014 to appear in marketing for Skechers' Relaxed Fit footwear line. Financial details were not disclosed.

Both men are scheduled to appear in humorous new ads that will hit airwaves this spring. Montana will appear alongside his daughter, Elizabeth, according to Skechers.

In addition to other marketing, Montana and Cuban have appeared in Super Bowl commercials for the brand. Skechers, which has aired commercials during the Super Bowl since 2010, has not yet committed to Super Bowl XLVIII, airing on Fox on Feb. 2, 2014.

According to Michael Greenberg, president for Skechers, “It’s thanks to Joe’s elite status and Mark’s outrageous personality that we’ve been able to reach men who are looking for comfortable and casual footwear. Relaxed Fit from Skechers has been a huge success for us, so keeping Joe and Mark on board was a no-brainer. They’re both an integral component of our plans moving forward.”

“It’s great to carry on this relationship and I know I can keep delivering for the team,” Montana said in a statement. “It was a fun experience working with my daughter on set, and I think people will love how the finished campaign turned out. Relaxed Fit footwear is comfortable and classic — I love these shoes!”

Regarding his contract extension, Cuban said, “I always stick with brands I love, so I’m excited to be on this team for another year.”
