Don't That Beat All: Ringo Starr's In Fab Marketing Campaign For Skechers
By Barry Janoff
October 20, 2014: Richard Starkey Jr. has been signed as an endorser for Skechers.
People know him as the man who played drums for what arguably was the most impactful band in music history, The Beatles, who went on to a celebrated solo career that is still in progress.
However, it's not just the music that attracted Skechers to Ringo Starr.
"[His] recent modeling gig with a high-end designer shows Ringo is not only a music icon, but also a style icon," Michael Greenberg, president of Skechers, said in a statement.
The 74-year-old Starr will appear in a multi-media campaign, beginning in Spring 2015, for Skechers Relaxed Fit footwear. Details of the effort were not disclosed, but the sports, lifestyle and crossfit company said it would follow "the humorous tone that has become a signature of the Relaxed Fit footwear commercials."
Ringo joins a roster that includes sports celebrities Joe Montana, Mark Cuban, Joe Namath, Pete Rose and Mariano Rivera, the latter three also recently signed to deals with Skechers.
A TV spot will anchor marketing to include print, outdoor, online and POP through June 2016.
“We are incredibly excited to be working with such an amazing world-renowned artist as Ringo Starr,” said Greenberg. “Ringo possesses the charm, cool charisma and instant global recognition that will elevate awareness for our popular Relaxed Fit footwear collection both in the United States and especially around the world."

Starr is currently on tour in the U.S. He also has attached his name to a number of humanitarian causes, including the anti-violence #Peacerocks campaign through the David Lynch Foundation. The home page of his Web site implores visitors to "Save the Elephants."
According to Greenberg, "As we move from the sports world to the music world with this campaign, Ringo is the perfect ambassador to illustrate how our comfortable footwear helps keep you relaxed in any situation.”
