P&G Unveils First Olympic Games Activation In USOC Alliance

Olympic skiier Lindsey Vonn temporarily trades in her athletic gear for fashion apparel during P&G photo shoot.September 30, 2009: It didn't take long for Procter & Gamble to activate behind its alliance with the U.S. Olympic Committee. The CPG giant said it has signed a group of high-profile Team USA athletes to represent the company in marketing efforts that will lead up to and carry through the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. Financial terms were not revealed.

Among the athletes now aligned with P&G are Allison Baver (U.S. National Champion, Short Track Speed Skating), Tanith Belbin (Olympic silver medalist, Ice Dancing), Vonetta Flowers (Olympic gold medalist, Bobsled), Lindsey Jacobellis (Olympic silver medalist, Snowboarding), Apolo Ohno (five-time Olympic medalist, Short Track Speed Skating) and Lindsey Vonn (two-time World Champion, Alpine Skiing).

According to P&G, Baver, Belbin, Flowers and Vonn will be united with such beauty brands as Cover Girl, Olay, Olay Quench, Pantene, Secret and Venus. Jacobellis and Ohno will be aligned with Vicks. The athletes will be "fully integrated across numerous marketing channels including advertising, public relations, in-store merchandising, mobile, digital and direct mail," according to P&G.

The Cincinnati-based company in September signed a 17-brand marketing deal across five USOC sponsorship categories for the 2010 Olympics and 2012 Summer Games in London. The 2010 Winter Olympics will be held Feb. 12-28.

“Partnering with these world-class athletes further accentuates our commitment to Team USA and P&G’s long tradition of helping people achieve their personal best each and every day,” Kirk Perry, vice president, North America for P&G, said in a statement. “Each one of these athletes has a unique personality that fits within our brands’ equities and we are confident they will resonate with our target consumers.”
