Nike Extends Its Run With USOC Through 2020 Tokyo Summer Games

Special to NYSportsJournalism.com

November 24, 2014: It may be football/basketball/hockey season, but Nike is thinking Olympic Games.

The U.S. Olympic Committee said that Nike has extended its alliance with Team America through 2020.

As a USOC sponsor, Nike holds rights in the categories of apparel, footwear and headwear.

Nike, which has been a USOC partner since 2005, had a deal that ran through the 2016 Summer Games in Rio de Janeiro.

The pact, which also encompasses the Paralympic Games, now includes the 2018 Winter Games in  PyeongChang, South Korea; and the 2020- Summer Games in Tokyo.

in addition, Nike will provide the award uniforms for the 2016, 2018 and 2020 U.S. Youth Olympic Teams; and the 2015 and 2019 U.S. Pan American and Parapan American Teams.

Financial terms were not revealed.

“Nike has been a proud partner of the U.S. Olympic Committee since 2005 and we are excited to extend our support of Olympic and Paralympic athletes through 2020,” David Schriber, Nike vp-marketing for North America, said in a statement. “Nike’s mission is to provide inspiration and innovation to every athlete and this is another opportunity to show our continued support of Team USA athletes and the U.S. Olympic Committee.”

"Nike innovations have long been instrumental for many Team USA athletes as they perform at the Olympic or Paralympic Games."

According to Lisa Baird, CMO for the USOC, “We are proud to extend our partnership with Nike through 2020, a company that has helped advance sport at a global level. Nike innovations have long been instrumental for many Team USA athletes as they perform at the Olympic or Paralympic Games, and we are inspired by the memorable looks and styles Nike has created for Team USA athletes during the Games and on the medal stand."

Global International Olympic Committee partners include Atos, Bridgestone, Coca-Cola, Dow, GE, McDonald's Omega, Panasonic, Samsung, P&G and Visa.

In addition to Nike, USOC partners include 24 Hour Fitness, AT&T, BMW, BP, Anheuser-Busch (Budweiser), Chobani, Citi, The Hartford, Hilton, Kellogg's, Liberty Mutual, Oakley, Ralph Lauren, Smuckers, Ameritrade, United and USG.
