Dallas Cowboys AT&T Stadium To Host NHL Outdoor Game In ’27: 100K Fans Welcome

November 4, 2025: Jerry Jones is hosting a party with the NHL and they’d like 100,000 people to join in.
The league said the 2027 Navy Federal Credit Union NHL Stadium Series on Feb. 20, 2027 would be played in AT&T Stadium, home to the Dallas Cowboys.
The Stars will be the host team, with the visitors TBD.
The venue has a retraceable roof but it will be open for the game, technically making it an outdoor event. This will be the first hockey game in AT&T Stadium.
"The National Hockey League is thrilled to bring the spectacle of an NHL Stadium Series game to Arlington and one of the world's most spectacular sports settings, AT&T Stadium," commissioner Gary Bettman said via the league.
“Ever since its opening in 2009, Jerry Jones has been advocating for an outdoor game at this amazing venue. And we are delighted to partner with the Cowboys and Stars — two franchises dedicated to the fans of North Texas — and to create another unique fan experience for a market that has long been a hockey success story and welcomed us so enthusiastically when the 2020 NHL Winter Classic was played at the Cotton Bowl."
AT&T Stadium seats 80,000 but has the ability to hold more than 100,000 counting standing-room only.
With the potential use of additional on-field seating, this could become the highest-attended game in NHL history.
The Cowboys are averaging 93,061 this season, the most in the NFL.
Only two NHL games have drawn more than 90,000 fans.
The Jan. 1, 2014 Winter Classic Michigan Stadium, Ann Arbor had 104,173 (confirmed) 105,491 (announced).
The March 1, 2025 Stadium Series Ohio Stadium Columbus Ohio had 94,751 in attendance.
The Winter Classic in the Cotton Bowl in Dallas on Jan. 1, 2020 was played before a sellout crowd of 85,630, the third-most attended game in NHL history
"Hosting the NHL Stadium Series with the Dallas Stars is another great example of the vision we've always had for what AT&T Stadium could be beyond football," Jerry Jones, majority owner of the Cowboys, said via the NHL.
"The game will be another proud moment for us, and being able to provide a world class fan and team experience in partnership with two outstanding organizations, the NHL and the Stars, will be very special."
Steve Mayer, NHL president of content and events, told the Dallas Morning News that NHL officials have been in talks with the Cowboys to ensure the AT&T Stadium roof can open for the game.
“This is an outdoor series, and we intend for it to be an outdoor game,” Mayer said.
"We've been to a few markets more than once, we've even been to the same stadium in one place more than once," Bettman said. "Being in this building is going to be exciting on its own. I mean, that scoreboard, you can't even describe it. It's going to be very special, and people when they see the rink will go, 'This is where they play football? This is where they should be playing hockey all the time!
"It's great for us to have the opportunity to be welcomed here and to play here. When you have a chance to play in another iconic venue, even if it's in the same market, you take that opportunity because you know it'll be special."
According to Bettman, "This venue has hosted boxing matches, basketball games, concerts, occasionally some football. This is a stadium that can adapt to whatever the case is This will be the first hockey game here. Together with Jerry and the Cowboys, I am more than certain it will be a great event."
