NHL Rolling "7s" And Boosting TV, Fan, Marketing Awareness

May 14, 2009: The National Hockey League could not have planned for a better post-season match up than the one pitting Sidney Crosby's Pittsburgh Penguins versus Alex Ovechkin's Washington Capitals, which put them, the league and marketing partners in the public eye. Pittsburgh needed a Game 7 to stop Washington and advance to the Eastern Conference finals, a good deal all around as TV ratings and interest among casual and non-hockey fans is up, a key to keeping league partners happy. Crosby finished the series against Washington with 8 goals and 13 points while Ovechkin countered with 8 goals and 6 assists, providing more fuel to their marquee status fire within the league. Moving on, the NHL has a pair of Game 7s tonight (May 14), and is offering up multiple platforms for viewers in the U.S. and Canada to access both the Anaheim Ducks-Detroit Red Wings semifinal series and the Carolina Hurricanes-Boston Bruins semifinal conclusion. In the U.S., Versus will televise the Ducks-Red Wings game as a national game to fans outside of the Detroit and Anaheim markets. Fans in Detroit will be able to watch the game on Fox Sports Detroit; viewers in the Anaheim market will be able to watch the game on Prime Ticket. In the U.S., Versus will join the Hurricanes-Bruins Game 7 in progress for fans outside of the Boston and Carolina markets immediately upon the conclusion of the Ducks-Red Wings game. Fans in the Boston market will be able to watch the game in its entirety on NESN, and fans in the local Carolina market will be able to see the game in its entirety on Fox Sports Carolinas. In Canada, the Ducks-Red Wings Game 7 will be televised live nationally on CBC and RDS. For U.S. fans living outside of the local Carolina and Boston viewing areas, Hurricanes-Bruins Game 7 will be streamed in its entirety live online on NHL.com through a “Game Center Live Day Pass,” available for $19.95.
