April 28, 2015: Football players who star in college and go on to have great careers in the NFL can sometimes be viewed as being larger than life.
OYO Sports envisions a group of potentially great NFL player players as being much smaller than lifesize.
The Boston-based company has added a group of soon-to-be NFL rookies to its roster of Campus Legends mini-figures, including Jameis Winston, Marcus Mariota, Dante Fowler Jr., Sammie Coates, Amari Cooper, Todd Gurley and other college stars predicted to be selected by teams during the NFL Draft (April 30-May2).
The player rights are managed through OYO's license with NFL Players Inc., the licensing and marketing division of the NFL Players Assn.
OYO, which also has licensing deals that include the NFL, MLB, NHL, MLS, MiLB and the National Baseball Hall of Fame, has alliances with some 50 universities nationwide.
As a partner with the Collegiate Licensing Co., the licensing affiliate of IMG College, OYO Sports has released figures of Winston, who is predicted to be the No. 1 overall selection out of Florida State University in the NFL Draft, as well as Cooper (Alabama), Coates (Auburn), Vic Beasley (Clemson), Gurley (Georgia), Fowler Jr. (Florida), Randy Gregory (Nebraska), A.J. Cann (South Carolina)
and Kevin White (West Virginia).
The products, which are available online and are now also hitting retail, will have a role in the NFL Draft itself later this week.
OYO Sports will have a booth in Draft Town, a fan-fest space being built in Chicago near the site of the Auditorium Theatre, where the Draft itself will be held. Among other activations, OYO plans to have pro product ready to hand to the Top 15 picks (although Winston and Mariota have said they will be in their respective homes, not Chicago) when their names are called by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell.
Visitors to Draft City will be able to purchase the mini-figures on site.
IMG/CLC said they would create brief videos for OYO that would re-enact the players walking across the NFL Draft stage using stop-motion video and audio from Thursday’s draft.
The videos will be shared with schools for their social media sites as well as the public-at-large..

Annual retail sales of licensed college-related products hit $4.6 billion in 2014, according to IMG/CLC.
