NFL QB Russell Wilson Plans To Sleep Well With Molecule So Opponents Can’t

NYSJ Sports-Entertainment Business News Service

July 24, 2018: Tom Brady, NFL quarterback for the New England Patriots, has done marketing for Simmons mattress and in his self-help book, The TB12 Method: How to Achieve a Lifetime of Sustained Peak Performance, offers tips on how to become a better athlete and lead a healthier life by following various sleet-related tips ("Create a good pre-sleep routine to relax," "Train your body to get into a rhythm by going to bed at a regular time," etc.).

This past January, Minneapolis-based Sleep Number signed a multi-year pact to become the “official sleep and wellness partner” with the NFL.

Following in the sleep-walking footsteps of his peers, Russell Wilson, quarterback for the Seattle Seahawks, has signed a multi-year alliance with Molecule, which manufactures mattresses and sheets as part of a sleep system designed to improve health and wellness.

“As an athlete, I am constantly looking for healthy ways to maximize my potential,” Wilson said in a statement. “Achieving better sleep may seem simple, but there is so much research and science on how to best achieve quality sleep for performance.

“This is where teaming with Molecule made the most sense for me. I appreciate how they combine science with sports performance and have a focus helping athletes recover better, so we can play better.”

Wilson will appear in multi-media marketing and use Molecule sleep products as his “exclusive rest and recovery partner.”

Wilson joins the company's sports endorsement roster that includes the New York Mets, Olympic medal winners Nastia Liukin and Susan Francia and pro runners Ryan Hall and Sara Hall.

Chicago-based Molecule said that its “first-of-its-kind mattress and sheets are designed to regulate core body temperature with proprietary Air-Engineered technology. The proprietary foam used in their mattresses delivers almost three times the airflow of the leading competition, resulting in better heat dissipation, and ultimately better quality sleep.”

Molecule said its sheets include a unique blend of Tencel and cotton that allow for more than twice the air permeability of traditional cotton sheets.

According to Raymond Lyle, co-founder and CMO for Molecule. “It’s no secret that restorative sleep is incredibly powerful and beneficial for the mind and body, especially as we spend over one-third of our total lives sleeping.

“From elite athletes like Russell to the everyday person trying to power through the day, everyone can benefit from achieving better sleep, and we’re proud to have developed products to maximize rest and recovery.”

When the company signed a deal with the Mets earlier this month, Channing Chor, evp-business development for Molecule said, "The Mets players understand the importance of rest not just for better performance during games, but also for daily practices and overall wellness."

Wilson, who led the Seahawks to their first Super Bowl victory in 2014 and then to a second straight Super Bowl berth in 2015, also has deals with Nike, Bose and Alaska Airlines.

“It’s no secret that restorative sleep is incredibly powerful and beneficial for the mind and body, especially as we spend over one-third of our total lives sleeping."

Sleep Number's NFL pact expanded upon its existing team partnerships, including a ten-year deal with the Minnesota Vikings signed this past October and the Dallas Cowboys.

According to Sleep Number, “Every player in the league will be offered a Sleep Number 360 smart bed with SleepIQ technology.”

Sleep Number said it would work with players, teams and trainers as they “integrate sleep insights into their overall performance regimens (and) help players understand how better sleep impacts their on-the-field performance.”

"We are constantly assessing world-class technologies and partners and know this unprecedented partnership will provide players the ability to improve their performance through individualized, smarter sleep," Roger Goodell, NFL commissioner, said in a statement at the time.
