September 6, 2026: Fans of the NFL will be happy to know they can boo Roger Goodell at the Draft (and elsewhere) from another four years.
The NFL Compensation Committee said it has reached agreement with Goodell to remain as commissioner through the 2030 league season, ending on March 31, 2031.
Goodell succeeded Paul Tagliabue in 2006 when he was elected NFL commissioner.
This is Goodell’s fifth extension, having previously re-signed in 2009, 2012, 2017 and 2023. He joined the NFL in 1982 as an administrative intern under then-commissioner Pete Rozelle.
Financial terms were not shared.
However, the agreement is “heavily performance based, with more than 95% of the total compensation tied to Roger's and the NFL's performance measured against various metrics and at the discretion of the Compensation Committee,” according to Robert Kraft, New England Patriots owner and chairman of the compensation committee.
“We believe we are very fortunate to have Roger at the helm for the next four years."
Rob Manfred has been MLB commissioner since January 2015, with his current contract running through January 2029.
Adam Silver has been NBA commissioner since February 2014, with his current deal running through 2030.
Gary Bettman has been NHL commissioner since February 1993, with his current deal running through 2028-29.
