NFL's Dolphins VP-M Chris Overholt Named Canadian Olympic Committee CMO

April 19, 2010: Fresh off what has been deemed as a successful display of massive Olympic undertaking, the Canadian Olympic Committee has revamped its executive and marketing departments. The COC said that Jean Dupre has been named as CEO and secretary general and that Chris Overholt was named COO and CMO.

Dupre, who had been director general of Speed Skating Canada, replaces Chris Rudge, who resigned as CEO April 15.

Overholt, a native of Toronto, returns to Canada from the NFL, where since 2006 he had been vp-marketing partnerships and new media for the Miami Dolphins. He recently was involved in the efforts to land a naming rights deal for the Dolphins' home stadium, which was christened Sun Life Stadium just before hosting the 2010 NFL Pro Bowl and Super Bowl XLIV.

Prior to that he spent three years with the NHL's Florida Panthers, and worked with the NBA's Toronto Raptors and NHL's Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment before leaving Canada in 2003.

"We were looking for two individuals with unique skill sets and a strong passion for sport," Marcel Aubut, the COC's president-elect, said in a statement,. ""The road ahead is challenging, but I am deeply convinced that for this new leadership team, our successes [at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver] were only the beginning of so much more."

DuPre and Overholt wlll hit the ground running to prepare for the 2012 Summer Games in London, the 2014 Winter Games in Sochi and as part of the group of organizations overseeing the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto, which will be a major destination for athletes eyeing the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

“Canada has experienced tremendous recent Olympic success in Vancouver and Beijing and the opportunity to play a key leadership role in building upon it is truly an honor," Overholt said in a statement. "The COC has a very clear and inspiring vision upon which we will build great organizational strength, and lasting relationships with all our partners and stakeholders. I’m thankful for this once-in-a-life time opportunity.”
