Draft Day Verdict: NFL Sets Attendance, Merch Marks During Pittsburgh Event

April 27, 2026: Fernando Mendoza was selected No. 1 overall by the Las Vegas Raiders, but the NFL said the 2026 Draft presented by Bud Light also produced other number ones, including new records in attendance and merchandise sales and strong results in viewership.
The 2026 NFL Draft in Pittsburgh drew a record attendance of 805,000 across the three days (April 23-25), including a record 320,000 April 23 for Round 1, breaking the record of 775,000 set two years ago in Detroit.
In addition, in its first year as the league’s NFL Draft retail partner, Fanatics and the NFL broke the record for merchandise sales throughout NFL Draft weekend, originally set last year in Green Bay. Financial figures were not revealed.
Viewers drove Round 1 of the 2026 NFL Draft to its third most-watched audience ever, averaging 13.2 million viewers on all linear and digital platforms including ESPN, ABC, NFL Network, ESPN Deportes, Disney+, Hulu, the ESPN App, NFL+, YouTube, TikTok and X. (Round 1, in its current format, began in 2010.)
Projected economic returns range from $120 million to $215 million, according to Visit Pittsburgh.
That holds up well versus recent NFL Draft events.
The 2024 NFL Draft generated a $213.6 million economic impact for the City of Detroit and region, including $161.3 million from visitors coming to the area, according to Visit Detroit and the Detroit Sports Commission. “That spending from visitors (will have) a long-term economic impact resulting in new income for local households, businesses, and tax revenues.”
The 2025 Draft was ini Green Bay.April 24-26, 2025, in and around Lambeau Field and the Titletown campus.
Total economic impact in Brown County was $72,917,186, more than $50 million over the original $20 million projection, according to Experience Greater Green Bay. Total economic impact across the state reached $104,789,486, surpassing the initial $94 million estimate.
The 2027 NFL Draft is scheduled for Washington DC, in and around the National Mall, where early projections are that attendance could reach or top one million.
The NFL Draft was held in New York City from 1965 to 2014. The 2021 Draft was in Cleveland, 2022 in Las Vegas, 2023 in Kansas City, MO, 2019 in Nashville, 2018 in Dallas, 2017 in Philadelphia and 2014-15 in Chicago. The 2020 Draft was virtual due to COVID-19.
