• Boston’s Public Improvement Commission has approved a request by the Red Sox to change the name of Yawkey Way outside of Fenway Park, named after former owner Tom Yawkey (1933-1976), back to its original name, Jersey Street, following allegations about Yawkey (who died in 1976) being a racist. According to the Red Sox, “Today’s vote is an important step in our ongoing effort to make Fenway Park a place where everyone feels welcome.”

• Dale Earnhardt Jr. has written a book, Racing to the Finish: My Story, scheduled to be released Oct. 16. He calls it a “candid, first-person account of what seemed at first as a minor racing accident but ultimately forced life-changing decisions.”

• The NBA has signed a multi-year deal with Perform Media that will see the digital sports content-#media group manage the NBA’s official Web sites in 15+ international markets, including Argentina, Australia, Canada, India, Japan, Mexico and Spain. The NBA said it has 20 such localized sites

• The Drone Racing League has expended its presence in France with  a 2018 race in France at the Allianz Riviera stadium and a media partnership with Groupe AB. DRL has also signed an extension of the Allianz title partnership of the DRL Championship Race Series for an additional five years.

Tip Of The Cap: New Deal Makes New Era Official Headwear Partner For NBA

October 26, 2016: New Era, already the official cap for the NFL and MLB, has added the NBA to its roster, signing an expanded global licensing partnership this week making it the official authentic headwear provider for the NBA, WNBA and NBA D-League.
 
Financial terms were not released.

New Era, which had been a partner with the league for 20 years, now gets to produce exclusive caps for such marquee events as the NBA Draft presented by State Farm, Conference Finals and NBA Finals, including the NBA Draft Cap and Official Locker Room Championship Cap.

The brand said it would also unveil lifestyle-inspired products for the NBA All-Star 2017 in New Orleans.

New Era will support with marketing and retail activations within league and team platforms.

“We’ve been a partner of the NBA for many years and are excited for the opportunity to continue to work with such a storied league and its outstanding teams,” Chris Koch, president and CEO for New Era, said in a statement. “We’re looking forward to using team and league logos to bring unique designs and styles to the market for both players and fans.”

Merchandise will be available at  the NBA's online shop, New Era's Web site, the NBA Store on Fifth Avenue in New York, all NBA team venues and at New Era flagship stores and retailers worldwide.

According to Lisa Piken Koper, vp-global partnerships for the NBA, "We’re very excited to grow our relationship with New Era and explore new ways to share premium product with our fans. The NBA Draft and Finals will reflect our refreshed approach to the category."
