NBA, Taco Bell Thinking On The Outside Of The Box For Playoff Promotion

Special to NYSportsJournalism.com

May 24, 2013: In an effort to make the playoffs hotter and tastier, the NBA and Taco Bell have unveiled the Taco Bell NBA BIG Box, six different NBA-themed boxes featuring players from every team and filled with Taco Bell menu items.

Players on the packaging include Kevin Durant, Tyson Chandler, Dwyane Wade, Kyrie Irving, Deron Williams, Ray Allen, Paul Pierce, Josh Smith, Kevin Love, James Harden, Kobe Bryant and Chris Paul.

This is the second NBA-themed box from league partner Taco Bell. In 2010, Charles Barkley fronted a multi-media campaign that included a Super Bowl XLIV TV and an NBA box.

The Taco Bell NBA BIG Box promotion is scheduled to run in more than 6,000 Taco Bell locations now through July 3.

In addition to featuring 42 players from all 30 teams, the boxes dismantle to create a miniature basketball court as well as a QR code that opens a special mobile microsite containing exclusive videos and other content featuring “Live Mas” moments.

The boxes feature two distinct menus: the Doritos Locos Tacos BIG Box contains a Doritos Locos Taco Supreme (Cool Ranch or Nacho Cheese), Burrito Supreme, Crunchy Taco and a medium-size drink; the NBA Beefy Crunch Burrito BIG Box: Beefy Crunch Burrito, Crunchwrap Supreme, Crunchy Taco and a medium drink.

Taco Bell has been the NBA’s official quick-service restaurant since 2009.
