• The NFL's 100th season will begin with the Chicago Bears hosting the Green Bay Packers in Soldier Field on Thursday, Sept. 5 (NBC, 8:20 PM ET). This will be the 199th meeting between the Bears and Packers, including regular- and post-season. Super Bowl champion New England Patriots will begin their season on NBC Sunday Night Football Sept. 8. Their opponent will be named when the full 2019 regular season schedule is released later this spring.

• Kraft Heinz, in partnership with the NHL and NHLPlayers’ Association (NHLPA) has unveiled the top four finalist communities competing for the coveted title of Kraft Hockeyville USA 2019. Voting begins March 30.

• NBA Experience, the new destination coming to Disney Springs at Walt Disney World Resort (Orlando) will officially open Aug. 12, 2019. In collaboration with the NBA, Disney is developing NBA Experience with 13 interactive elements and hands-on activities across 44,000 square feet and two floors, also including a NBA-themed retail store.

• D.G. Yuengling & Son brewery has signed a deal with Philadelphia Phillies' pitcher Aaron Nola, making him one of the first active, MLB players to have a partnership with a beer brand. Yuengling has been a sponsor of the Phillies since 2017,

• Alex Rodriguez' future is so hot he needs to wear shades. Good thing Jennifer Lopez also needs to wear shades. The celebrity couple stars in a new year-long marketing from Quay Australia, which is being called “their first major fashion campaign together,’ by industry analysts. Media includes print, digital and social media.

• The 2019 Alliance of American Football Championship, originally scheduled for April 27 in Las Vegas, will be played in Ford Center at The Star in Frisco, Texas., which is owned and operated by Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys.

• MLB and the MLB Players’ Assn. have unveiled numerous changes to the game to be installed over the next two seasons that will impact game length, marketing broadcast partners, the All-Star Game and the Home Run Derby. Full story here.

Houston, We Have A Promotion: Rockets Sign ROKiT To Jersey, Marketing Deal

In what might be the most natural alliance in the NBA, the Houston Rockets have signed a multi-level marketing deal with Rokit Phones that includes ROKiT as the team's inaugural jersey partner.

ROKiT describes itself as a “challenger cell phone startup.” It launched this past August of this year as a subsidiary of ROK Brands, founded by businessman John-Paul DeJoria (John Paul Mitchell Systems, Patron Tequila, John Paul Pet) and British entrepreneur Jonathan Kendrick.

This is the second sports deal in recent months for ROKiT having signed with the NFL Los Angeles Chargers for naming rights to the field in their home StubHub Stadium.

Financial terms of the ROKiT deal with the Rockets were not shared.

The average value of the previous NBA jersey-patch deals is about $9 million, per industry analysts, most of them three-year alliances.

“We were patient in deciding on our inaugural jersey partner and are thrilled to select ROKiT, a company which shares our commitment to excellence both on and off the court,” Tad Brown, Rockets CEO, said via the team.

“We have high expectations heading into this season and look forward to introducing our fans to the quality products and high level of service that ROKiT offers.”

With the Rockets and Chicago Bulls signing jersey patch deals on the eve of the NBA campaign, only three clubs remain without such alliances: the Indiana Pacers, Oklahoma City Thunder and Washington Wizards.

In addtion to its logo on the jerseys of such players as James Harden and Chris Paul (pictured), the Rockets-ROKiT alliance also includes select ROK Drinks brands, with three Toyota Center lounges re-branded as Bogart’s Lounge, ABK Beer Garden and Bandero Tequila Terrace.

As the holidays approach, ROKiT said it would support the launch of the ROKiT IO Pro 3D, with “glasses-free, state-of-the-art 3D technology.”

ROKiT will also partner with the team on various community outreach efforts throughout the season “with a focus on programs for military veterans, such as Hoops for Troops, while looking to integrate their parent brand’s involvement with Vets to Vets.”

ROKiT said it offers a variety of “humanity-first IO Collection cell phone bundles: feature-laden, cutting-edge phones that include access to free telemedicine, pharmacy discounts, family legal services and other lifestyle-enhancing offerings at prices that make them affordable for everyone.”

According to Kendrick, “The Rockets’ community involvement sets a stellar example for their fans in Houston, across the country and around the world.

“In that commitment, we saw powerful synergy with our mission of improving the lifestyle of mankind. We are thrilled to initiate this long-term partnership.”

Among the biggest NBA jersey ad deals to date, the Golden State Warriors jersey-logo pact with Rakuten is valued at $60 million over three years.

The Los Angeles Lakers signed with e-commerce firm Wish, a three-year deal that analysts put at $12-$14 million annually, similar in value to an alliance between the New York Knicks and SquareSpace.

The Cleveland Cavaliers signed with Goodyear for $30 million over three years. The Boston Celtics have a three-year deal with GE valued at $24 million.
