NBA, Twitter Adding ISO-CAM Option To All-Star, Regular Season, Playoff Games

NYSJ Sports-Entertainment Business News Service

January 9, 2019:
The NBA has more than 27 million followers on Twitter, millions more worldwide, and the league wants to put them — and all of its fans — to work as directors.

The NBA has joined with Turner Sports and Twitter to unveil a live-streaming platform in the U.S. that would allow people to vote for a player they want to watch during a game on TNT via ISO-CAM.

The Twitter camera will focus during the second half of those games only on the player who earns the most Twitter accolades.

The ”complementary experience on Twitter” will come to life via @NBAonTNT for 20 NBA on TNT games this season, beginning with the All-Star Game in Charlotte on Feb. 17, then running through the playoffs.

The NBA has more than 27.6 million followers on its Twitter account, more than three million at NBA on TNT, plus millions more — including nearly six million followers on the ESPN NBA account — worldwide.

“The NBA Twitter community is among the most vibrant in sports and entertainment,” said NBA commissioner Adam Silver said via the league.

“While watching NBA games on TNT, our fans on Twitter can now enjoy a unique second screen experience that will further enhance the way fans engage with each other and the game.

As part of the expanded relationship, the NBA — through its NBA Digital partnership with Turner — said it would continue to provide on-demand content from the @NBA Twitter handle, including video of pre-game warmups, in-game and post-game highlights and behind-the-scenes content.

According to David Levy, president of Turner, “Turner and the NBA have always taken a leadership position in providing fans with engaging experiences and this partnership with Twitter is the latest example.

“This complementary live stream on Twitter — from the distinct vantage point of the fan-voted, most coveted player on a given night — will provide an additive experience for fans to go along with the fully-produced coverage on TNT.”

The schedule of regular-season and playoff live streams will be released at a later date, along with “exclusive commentators who will provide analysis for this second screen offering.”

“#NBATwitter is one of the most exciting and entertaining global conversations happening on Twitter today,” Jack Dorsey, CEO for Twitter, said via the social media company.  “We’re thrilled to partner with the NBA and TNT to bring live video directly into the app to make it even better!”
