A Grand ‘Canyon Of Heroes’ Parade In New York Awaits NBA Champion Knicks

"We’re going to a parade in New York on June 18 in he Canyon of Heroes."
New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani sharedd details about a ticker-tape parade for the Knicks, scheduled for June 18. The celebration will mark the first ticker-tape parade in Knicks history
The parade is scheduled to start at 10 AM (ET). near Battery Park and travel north on Broadway through the Canyon of Heroes. A ceremony at City Hall will honoring the team, including awarding Keys to the City.
“For more than 50 years, New Yorkers have waited for this moment,” Mamdani said via his office. “Through near misses, heartbreak and a hope that every year could be our year, this city never stopped believing in the Knicks.
“And this team fulfilled that hope with grit, resilience and heart — just like the five boroughs itself. New Yorkers have cheered for our team from packed living rooms in the Bronx to watch parties in Brooklyn, from bars in Queens to Staten Island to Manhattan, and Madison Square Garden itself. Now it’s time for our city to celebrate together. Bing bong.”
Mamdani said City Hall and municipal buildings across the city would be illuminated in blue and orange on June 18 to celebrate the victory, including he David N. Dinkins Manhattan Municipal Building and Brooklyn Borough Hall:.
The ticker tape ceremony dares pack to a spontaneous celebration held on October 28, 1886, during the dedication of the Statue of Liberty, but the first officially organized ticker-tape parades welcomed home the victorious soldiers of World War I, according to the Alliance for Downtown New York.
The last team to receive a championship parade was the WNBA New York Liberty after winning the 2024 WNBA title in 2024. The U.S. Women's National Team received a parade after winning the 2019 World Cup.

The New York Yankees had a parade when they won the World Series in 2009. The New York Giants had parades after winning Super Bowls XLII and XLIV.
Confetti has long replaced ticker tape.
The NBA champion Knicks did not receive ticker tape parades in 1970 and 1973 because then-Mayor John Lindsay “discontinued the ticker-tape parade celebration in favor of more informal receptions,” according to various media outlets.
