October 22, 2025: Multi-purpose Duck Brand tape has a new purpose with the NBA.
The league and the iconic product have joined to create a two unique designs: One is NBA T-shirts that appear to have hand-drawn team logos stuck to the front by Duck Tape, the other with team nicknames spelled out using colored Duck Tape.
The Duck Band Tape Collection and Duck Brand Paper Collectiodfn were birthed by NBALAB, the NBA’s "innovation incubator," and Duck brand Duck Tape. The collaboration will feature officially licensed T-shirts for each of the 30 NBA teams, with both exclusive designs per team.
The actual product is not used on the T-shirts. According to NBALAB, “Each shirt will creatively replicate the look and feel of Duck Tape, translating the texture, patterns and iconic style of the household staple into wearable, fashion-forward fan gear.
“The line exemplifies NBALAB’s mission to explore unique and surprising partnerships that bring fresh expressions of the NBA to fans worldwide.’
“This is exactly the type of collaboration that defines NBALAB,” Billi Kid, co-founder and chief creative officer, said via NBALAB.
“We pride ourselves on creating the unexpected, and Duck Tape is an instantly recognizable brand that fans never imagined would crossover into the NBA world. Together, we’re creating something both fun and iconic that gives fans a whole new way to rep their team.”
According to a promo spot, “DuckTape X NBALAB Collection,” Duck Tape was invented in 1942 by Johnson & Johnson to seal ammunition cases during WWII. It became known as "duct tape" when the product was used to seal air conditioning ducts.
Shurtape Technologies now markets the Duck brand.
“Duct Tape has always been about creativity and self-expression and partnering with NBALAB to bring that energy to NBA apparel was a natural fit,” Kerry Haugh, director of product marketing, said via Shurtape Technologies.
“This collaboration celebrates the playful spirit of Duct Tape while giving fans unique, collectible designs they won’t find anywhere else.”
The Duck Tape x NBA collections will be available beginning today (Oct. 22) at NBALAB.com as well as select NBA official team stores.
The NBALAB was founded in 2015 to facilitate product expansion for the NBA's Global Licensing Group. It experiments with a variety of consumer goods as well as new product categories in collaboration with hand-picked companies and individuals who are making noise in their respective fields.
NBALAB also manages the NBA's officially licensed court upcycling program: NBA Reclaimed.
NBALAB has been busy entering the 2025-26 season.
Earlier this month, Game Face Grooming signed a multi-year, 30-team licensing agreement with NBALAB giving Game Face Grooming rights to produce and sell team-branded versions of its patented Push-Hold-Unfold sneaker cleaning wipe pods throughout the U.S. and Canada.
The first wave launched with six franchises: Philadelphia 76ers, New York Knicks, Boston Celtics, Los Angeles Lakers, Golden State Warriors and Chicago Bulls.
Additional teams will follow in phased waves throughout the regular season, including the Oklahoma City Thunder, Dallas Mavericks, Minnesota Timberwolves, San Antonio Spurs, Miami Heat, Houston Rockets and Los Angeles Clippers,
