Special to NYSportsJournalism.com

November 24, 2015: In marketing for Motel 6, spokesman Tom Bodett offers, "We'll leave the light on for you."

The lights will now be on in the college football post-season Cactus Bowl, which thanks to a sponsorship rights deal this season, will be known as the Motel 6 Cactus Bowl.

Operated by the Fiesta Bowl organization, the 27th annual Motel 6 Cactus Bowl is scheduled for Jan. 2, 2016, (ESPN), featuring teams from the Big 12 and Pac-12 conferences.

The game will be played in Phoenix' Chase Field for the first time since 2005.

Financial terms of the deal were not released.

"Motel 6 is proud to join forces with the Fiesta Bowl organization to become the official title sponsor of the Cactus Bowl," Lance Miceli, evp/CMO for G6 Hospitality, parent company of Motel 6. "With the championship games fast approaching, we will be hard at work preparing for an event that stands up to the dedication, talent and passion the athletes, coaches, and fans invest day in, day out."

The Cactus Bowl has now had more than a half-dozen title sponsors since its inception in 1989, including Domino's Pizza, Weiser Lock, Insight Enterprises, Buffalo Wild Wings (2-12-13) and TicketCity (2015).

Motel 6 plans to support with a multi-media effort to include TV, print, Internet, social media, outdoor and activation at the pre-game tailgate event.

"We will be hard at work preparing for an event that stands up to the dedication, talent and passion the athletes, coaches, and fans invest day in, day out."

According to Fiesta Bowl executive director Mike Nealy, "We are thrilled to partner with Motel 6 to present the 27th Annual Motel 6 Cactus Bowl. We take pride in hosting thousands of college football fans every year, and are honored to work with the iconic Motel 6 to bring fans an exciting experience of college football on a different playing field."

"The Motel 6 Cactus Bowl is a celebration of the drive and commitment these athletes have to being their very best, and we believe there's no better way to get 2016 off to a great start," said Miceli.
