• Tony Wyllie has been named regional president and managing director for Special Olympics North America. Wyllie most recently was svp-communications for the NFL’s Washington Redskins since 2010. His three-decade career also includes PR/communications with the St. Louis (now Los Angeles) Rams, Tennessee Titans and Houston Texans.

• The Los Angeles Clippers have signed a deal with Los Angeles-based tech firm Honey, which includes naming rights to team's renovated Honey Training Center: Home of the L.A. Clippers and its logo on team practice jerseys. According to Honey, "10 million-plus members worldwide use Honey's suite of free tools daily to save time and money when shopping online.”

• Washington Mystics forward-guard Elena Delle Donne has been named 2019 WNBA MVP.  It is the second MVP award for seven-year player, making her the first player in WNBA history to earn the honor with two different teams (2015 Chicago Sky).

• BMW Group Russia has signed a deal with tennis star Daniil Medvedev, currently ranked No. 4 in the world, who fell in five sets to Rafael Nadal in the recent U.S. Open Grand Slam finals. Medvedev, who will represent Russia in the inaugural ATP Cup tournament in Australia this January, will participate in various brand activities, including a BMW patch on his shirt, in Russia and worldwide .

• SoFi Stadium, which will be the new $6 billion home venue for the NFL’s Los Angeles Rams and Chargers beginning in 2020, will open July 25-26 with two Taylor Swift concerts.

• CBD edible company Bhang, Miami, has acquired Red Ace, a leading organic beverage company. Bhang plans to launch a Red Ace-branded line of CBD/terpene-style beverages and products, including functional sparkling beverages. Athlete ambassadors include Christian Ramirez, Russell Canouse and Kelyn Rowe (MLS) and Spencer Keiboom (Washington Nationals).

• The Paley Center for Media, NY, will honor the 100th season of the NFL with a new exhibit: "A Century of Football: Celebrating the NFL’s 100th Season," free and open to the public (Sept. 14-Oct. 27), which includes the first public screening of the only known complete broadcast of Super Bowl I (then known as the AFL-NFL World Championship Game) in January 1967 between the Green Bay Packers and the Kansas City Chiefs

• Pete Frates and Pat Quinn, co-founders of ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, have launched with The ALS Assn. the 5th anniversary of “Challenge Me” with a “new call to action to reignite the passion and generosity of the millions of people who dumped ice water on their heads in the summer of 2014.”

PGA Tour Adds $70M To FedExCup, New Wyndham Rewards Top Ten Competition

The PGA Tour not only continues to revamp its FedExCup Playoff system, but has added $70 million in potential prize money for which players can aim during the FedExCup regular season and playoffs.

Included is a new $10 million Wyndham Rewards Top Ten that “not only will add drama to the Wyndham Championship as the final event before the FedExCup Playoffs but will also put an even greater premium on excelling over the course of the FedExCup Regular Season,” according to the PGA Tour.

In addition, the existing FedExCup bonus pool will increase by $25 million, to $60 million. Beginning in 2019, the FedExCup champion will receive $15 million, versus the $10 million prize from previous years.

“We are excited to unveil the Wyndham Rewards Top 10 next year, which will place an even greater premium on excelling over the course of the regular season,” Andy Pazder, chief tournament and competitions officer for the PGA Tour, said in a statement.

“Season-long success is tantamount to qualifying for and advancing through the FedExCup Playoffs, and this is an exciting way to reward the best of the best and provide an added layer of drama for our fans in each market and around the world.”

According to the PGA Tour, the Top Ten regular season finishers in FedExCup points through the Wyndham Championship — also sponsored by Wyndham Rewards — would earn the benefits of the Wyndham Rewards Top Ten.

The leader would earn $2 million, $1.5 million for the runner-up and down incrementally, with the 10th-place finisher earning $500,000.

According to Jay Monahan, commissioner for the PGA Tour, “Our players and fans have invested in the FedExCup over the past 12 seasons, and with these enhancements, we are reinvesting in the FedExCup in order to raise the stakes, so to speak, for their benefit.

“We are able to grow and diversify our fan base because we have the best athletes on the planet competing on the PGA Tour.  Now is the time to make these changes, and thanks to significant input in the process by our players, partners and fans, I believe we’re making exactly the right moves.”

Among the changes, instead of a points reset at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta (the final FexEdCup Playoff event), beginning with the 2018-19 event the Tour is instituting a strokes-based bonus system related to the FedExCup standings through the BMW Championship.

Already revealed is FedExCup Playoffs reduction from four to three events beginning next season, to conclude before Labor Day,

“These changes wouldn’t have been possible without the full support of the Tour Championship’s outstanding Proud Partners — Coca-Cola and Southern Company — as well as longtime partner FedEx and an enhanced partnership with Wyndham Rewards,” said Monahan.

“They shared our vision for how we can challenge ourselves to raise level of excitement and fan engagement throughout the season up until the moment our FedExCup Champion is determined.”
