Baseball Legends Tommy John, Andre Dawson Get Dirty To Launch Mobil Super

While former ballplayers will go under the hood to replace old oil with Mobil Super, a sweeps is offering a trip to 2012 Spring Training.April 8, 2011: Tommy John, Andre Dawson, Fred Lynn and Greg Luzinski are among the former MLB players who will help to support the nationwide launch of Mobil Super, a line of premium-quality motor oils formulated to help reduce wear, prevent sludge and extend engine life.

Now through May 6, the retired players will get back into uniform — not their baseball jerseys, but those of Mobil 1 Lube Express — where they will pitch in by going under the hoods of cars to replace old oil with Mobil Super.

The Changeup Day campaign will also enable consumers a chance to win baseball tickets and autographed merchandise. (Full details here.)

During April and May, former baseball stars in eight U.S. cities will team up with employees at select Mobil 1 Lube Express locations to introduce drivers to the new Mobil Super family of products. First up will be Milwaukee on April 8, where Jim Gantner, who spent his entire 17-year MLB career with the Brewers, will offer his services.

On April 15, 26-year MLB veteran Tommy John will appear at a New York Mobil 1 Lube Express. John, who won 288 regular season games, pitched for the New York Yankees for eight years, compiling a 91-60 record.

Consumers will get a double-header on April 22 when Ron Kittle gets the call in Chicago and Andre Dawson will appear in Miami. Dawson, who was inducted in the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2010, hit 438 home runs and had more than 1,500 RBI's in 21 seasons, the last two of which were with the Florida Marlins.

The remaining schedule has Dante Bichette in Denver on April 29, Greg Luzinski in Philadelphia on April 29, and on May 6 Jim Sundberg in Dallas and Fred Lynn in Boston, where he was a mainstay with the Red Sox for the first seven years of his 17-year career.

Part of the launch campaign supporting Mobil Super.In a separate but related launch campaign, ExxonMobil and ESPN Radio are joining for the Mobil Super Protection Award. This program gives fans the opportunity to vote for the pitchers that they feel protected their team’s lead each week. At the end of each month, the winners will go head-to-head, with fans voting for one outstanding pitcher to receive the Mobil Super Protection Award.

Among the prizes being offered are a trip to a 2012 spring training location and $50 gift cards. (Full details here.)

The Changeup Day events are an exciting way to introduce this family of premium motor oils to drivers.”
   
The Mobile Super line includes High Mileage (for vehicles with more than 75,000 miles), 5000 (to extend engine life and combat sludge) and Synthetic (high temperature protection). ExxonMobil Lubricants and Petroleum Specialties is a division of ExxonMobil Corp.
