August 14, 2026: Calling it an area with a “passionate fanbase, world-class ballpark, and rich baseball history,” MLB said the San Francisco Giants have been awarded the 2028 All-Star Game presented by MasterCard in Oracle Park.
This would be the fourth time San Francisco has hosted the event and accompanying All-Star Week activities, which include the Home Run Derby, the Futures Game and the MLB Draft.
The Giants previously staged the All-Star Game in 2007. San Francisco also hosted the All-Star Game in Candlestick Park in 1961 and 1984.
The then-New York Giants hosted the MLB All-Star Game I 1934 and 1942 in the Polo Grounds.
“With its passionate fanbase, world-class ballpark, and rich baseball history, San Francisco will be an outstanding host for All-Star Week, which culminates in one of Major League Baseball’s best traditions, the Midsummer Classic,” MLB commissioner Rob Manfred said via the league. “We look forward to bringing the excitement of All-Star Week and the celebration of baseball to the Bay Area.”
The Chicago Cubs are scheduled to host the 2027 All-Star Game in Wrigley Field.
The 2028 MLB All-Star Game and events were not given specific dates, but if held in its traditional July timeframe would coincide with the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles July 14-30. The Games will include medal competition in baseball in Dodger Stadium, with MLB and the MLB Players Assn. still determining MLB player participation.
“This is a tremendous opportunity to showcase our organization, our city, and the incredible passion of our fans on baseball’s biggest summer stage,” Giants president and CEO Larry Baer said via the team. “Hosting the All-Star Game is more than celebrating the game’s brightest stars, it’s a chance to highlight the people, neighborhoods, and culture that make our community so special.
“Few cities offer the unique combination of sports, culture, innovation, entertainment, and natural beauty that defines San Francisco. We look forward to welcoming players, families, fans, and visitors from around the world for a week that will create lasting memories and have a meaningful impact throughout our region.”

This past May, San Francisco mayor Daniel Lurie said that unsheltered homelessness in the city — estimated at more than 8,500 people — “was at its lowest level in 15 years, according to preliminary data from the 2026 Point in Time Count. The data shows a significant decline in homelessness across San Francisco, with 1,000 fewer people on the street and unsheltered homelessness decreasing by 22% since the 2024 count — reaching the lowest level recorded since 2011 — and the total number of people experiencing homelessness down 4% since 2024.”
According to Lurie via the city “As I shared with commissioner Manfred two weeks ago, we’ve made public safety our top priority since day one, and we’re delivering safe and clean streets for residents and visitors. San Franciscans feel like our city is moving in the right direction, and people want to be here again.
“These major events bring visitors, support our local restaurants and bars, and continue to drive our recovery. And we’re going to keep our foot on the accelerator, so every family feels the benefit of that comeback.”
