To Its Credit, MasterCard Extends Multilayered Alliance With PGA Tour

December 18, 2012: Stating that “Golf is a passion point for many of our cardholders," MasterCard has signed an extension and enhancement of its alliance with the PGA Tour.

The new marketing relationship goes through 2016. MasterCard has been a sponsor of the PGA Tour and Champions Tour since 1995. In addition, it has been presenting sponsor of the Arnold Palmer Invitational Presented by MasterCard since 2004, a deal was renewed this past March through 2016.

Financial terms were not disclosed.

“Golf is a passion point for many of our cardholders,” Chris McWilton, president, U.S. Markets, for MasterCard, said in a statement.

“The Tour has helped us to provide our cardholders with golf experiences and access that bring them closer to the game in a truly unique manner. By aligning our brand with the things that matter most to our cardholders, we’re able to deliver on our brand promise and ultimately further cardholder loyalty.”

Under the new partnership, MasterCard said it would expand PGA Tour-related cardholder benefits at key tournaments and courses and unveil programs at select tournaments. This includes "Best Seats in the House," "Tournament Advantage" and "Priceless Lessons."

According to Tom Wade, CMO for of the PGA Tour, “We are excited about the programs that MasterCard is implementing for its cardholders who enjoy watching and playing golf. MasterCard continues to be very creative in developing marketing programs centered on its relationship with the PGA Tour. MasterCard also has been a vital part of the success of the PGA Tour and we are pleased to announce this four-year extension.”
