• In response to the mass shooting that occurred in the early hours of August 4, 2019, The Dayton Foundation has established the Dayton Oregon District Tragedy Fund.

• Per NBC Sports: “A plane carrying Dale Earnhardt Jr., his wife Amy and their daughter Isla rolled off the end of a runway and caught fire upon landing today (Aug. 15)  in Elizabethon (Municipal Airport), Tenn. All (five people) aboard the plane (including two pilots) are safe.”The airport is about 14 miles south of Bristol Motor Speedway, where Earnhardt Jr. was scheduled to be part of the NBC Sports crew cowering this weekend’s Nascar races.

• Continuing its expansion into the sports betting landscape, MLB has signed a multi-year partnership designating FanDuel as an “authorized gaming operator” of the league. FanDuel called it a “landmark deal” as it marks the company’s first partnership with MLB or an MLB team. MLB also has alliances in the sports betting category that include MGM Resorts International, Draftings and Sportradar. Full story here.

• For future trivia buffs: ex-NFL and Oklahoma quarterback Landry Jones has become the first player to officially sign with the XFL, which is scheduled to begin play in February 2020. Landry, who played in 19 games (five starts) during his NFL career (2013-18), mainly with the Pittsburgh Steelers, will be assigned to one of eight XFL teams via an eignt man QB draft scheduled for the fall. Financial terms were not released.
 

• Nick Kyrgios, currently ranked No. 27 in the world, has been fined $113,000 by the ATP relating to a series of incidents during his second-round loss at the Western & Southern Open Wednesday evening in Cincinnati, including five separate unsportsmanlike conduct situations, each a $20,000 fine.

• National consumer cannabidiol (CBD) brand cbdMD has signed a deal with reigning UFC heavyweight world champion, Daniel "DC" Cormier, which comes as Cormier is scheduled to defend his heavyweight title against Stipe Miocic at UFC 241 on Aug.17.

• T-Mobile said it would donate $2,000 per home run hit at the inaugural T-Mobile Little League Home Run Derby to Little League Baseball and Softball—pledging to hit at least $1 million in total donations in its first year of partnership. The money will fund participation grants to make programs more affordable for kids and families. The donation includes the $642,000 donated at the T-Mobile Home Run Derby at MLB All-Star Week.

• Seattle Seahawks QB Russell Wilson has become an investor in the MLS Seattle Sounders, along with his wife, musician Ciara; as well as rap artist Macklemore and his wife Tricia Davis. The Sounders also said that founding owner Joe Roth is leaving the club.

Marketers, Media Partners Support Players, Games At Jr. NBA Global Championship

AT&T, Beats by Dr. Dre, EA, Fanatics, Gatorade, HomeCourt, Kaiser Permanente, Nike, Sky Sports, Sony Pictures, Spalding, Tencent and YouTube are among the marketing and media partners that will support the players and games at the 2nd Jr. NBA Global Championship this week.

The competition, featuring the top 32 boys and girls teams from around the world, takes place Aug. 6-11 in the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando.

According to the NBA, the Jr. NBA Global Championship reached 5,000 more youth players this year than its inaugural season in 2018 and has also seen double-digit growth in corporate activation.

Fox Sports will air 16 games throughout the week, with a total of 24 hours of programming across Fox, FS1 and FS2.

The girls and boys Global Championship games will air on Fox on Aug. 11 (3 PM ET and 4:30 PM ET, respectively).

Among the top-tier “Proud Partners” for the Jr. NBA Global Championship are AT&T, Gatorade, Kaiser Permanente and Nike.

The Jr. NBA Global Championship is supported by NBA partners FIBA and USA Basketball,

Nike will provide premium apparel for all athletes and AT&T will offer giveaways inside HP Field House at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex;

Gatorade will provide all sideline product, including coolers, carts, cups, towels and sports drinks.

In addition, they will present the Jr. NBA Global Championship Skills Night (Aug. 8) featuring skills and three-point competitions and a dunk exhibition, as well as a hydration seminar for all participants. 

Kaiser Permanente will host the "Developing the Total Athlete Series," three days of life skills development sessions led by NBA and Kaiser Permanente health experts and supported by NBA and WNBA talent.

It will cover the "total health spectrum of mind, body and spirit in a culturally inclusive environment."

Kaiser Permanente will also provide athletes with stress relief items, stretching stations, consultations with physicians and a smoothie bar in the Player Lounge.

All Jr. NBA Global Championship teams will visit NBA Experience, a new destination scheduled to open in Disney Springs at Walt Disney World Resort on Aug. 12.

It includes 13 interactive elements and hands-on activities across 44,000 square feet and two floors.

Dwyane Wade, Mike Conley, Breanna Stewart, Swin Cash and Rick Carlisle are among NBA and WNBA ambassadors scheduled  to participate during the week of basketball and life skills development.

Among other activation:

• Beats by Dr. Dre will have music in the DJ booth at HP Field House and Beats Pill+ speakers in the exclusive Player Lounge, an area for the athletes to "relax, recharge and connect with their peers in a casual and fun setting."
 
• EA, the official partner of the Jr. NBA Global Championship Day of Service, will unveil a refurbished court alongside Jr. NBA participants for the greater Orlando community and enhance the Player Lounge with gaming areas for the athletes to enjoy.
 
• Fanatics, the official retailer of the Jr. NBA Global Championship, will sell an assortment of Jr. NBA Global Championship merchandise at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.

• HomeCourt, a leading mobile basketball training application, will be integrated into Skills Night to provide three-point contestants with shooting statistics and video footage.

All players can compete in exclusive digital shooting and dribbling challenges through the HomeCourt app.

Players and fans will have opportunities throughout the week to participate in onsite dribbling contests at HP Field House and in the Player Lounge. 

• Spalding will provide basketballs, nets and ball carts for games and practices.

The brand will also host two shooting sessions with pro shooting coach Chris Matthews, consisting of various shooting drills and demonstrations for the youth participants.

The Jr. NBA Global Championship includes the top 32 boys and girls teams (16 U.S. and 16 international) that advanced from regional competitions earlier this year, which "collectively reached more than 15,000 youth from 75 countries."

The 16 international teams (eight boys and eight girls teams) represent Africa, Asia Pacific, Canada, China, Europe & Middle East, India, Latin America and Mexico.

"Jr. NBA Global Championship reached 5,000 more youth players than its inaugural season in 2018 and has seen double-digit growth in corporate activation."

The 16 U.S. teams represent Central, Mid-Atlantic, Midwest, Northeast, Northwest, South, Southeast and West regions. 

In addition to coverage across Fox Sports, all games will be telecast live and simulcast on FOXSports.com as well as the Fox Sports app.

NBA All-Star Vince Carter, Sarah Kustok (YES Network’s lead Brooklyn Nets game analyst) and college basketball analyst Donny Marshall will provide commentary for Fox.

Sky Sports, the NBA’s exclusive broadcast partner and official Web site operator in the U.K. and Ireland, will broadcast select games in the U.K. and Ireland across Sky Sports Arena, Sky Sports Action, Sky Sports Mix and Sky Sports Main Event.

Sony Pictures Sports Networks will broadcast select games to fans in India on Sony Ten 1 and Sony Ten 2.

Tencent, the exclusive official digital partner of the NBA in China, and China Mobile Migu, the official telecom carrier immersion platform of the NBA in China, will stream select games in China.

The NBA Africa YouTube channel, the NBA’s first YouTube channel dedicated to sub-Saharan Africa, will broadcast seven games throughout the week, including the Global Championship games on Aug. 11.
